Job Description

Over the last few years, Bosch has established the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence (BCAI) as one of the leading enterprise research centers for AI. We are a motivated global team with the mission to incubate, create and roll out AI solutions to Bosch. We work closely with domain experts on exciting Bosch data sets for real world applications to transform Bosch into a data driven company.
We are looking for a Research Engineer to support our research team working on state-of-the-art NLP research on machine learning and deep learning models in an Enterprise AI setting. You will support us in software development activities for transferring our research results in real-world systems. Concretely, your tasks will include:

  • Develop and prototype novel NLP models as well as applications and services from novel NLP models, from backend to front end.
  • Support the rapid transfer from research prototypes into real-world projects. Participate and drive the development of our NLP services and software architectures for large and scalable projects, creating and maintaining scalable ML/DL model serving architectures, both on cloud and on-premises.  
  • Contribute to designing the overall architecture of systems. You take the ownership of specific components, and make them reliable and scalable. You participate in the operation of the services to take end-to-end responsibility.
  • Ensure high code quality, by writing high quality and high coverage tests, high quality documentation and automated CI/CD pipelines. You will actively participate in a code reviewing process. Together with your teammates, you will foster the software engineering culture in our team and in BCAI.
  • Promote a culture of sharing knowledge by organizing and speaking on knowledge sharing sessions across BCAI and Bosch. You like to continuously grow your skills and support your colleagues in improving theirs.
  • You actively research emerging best practices in software development for AI applications and drive their adoption in the organization.


Education: excellent degree (Master) in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or related field, PhD is a plus

Personality: a formidable team player with a passion for creating beautifully written code, keen to learn new technologies and share knowledge while being able to work independently

Working Practice: independently, motivated, goal-oriented, and pro-active

Experience and Knowledge:

  • strong background and several years of industry experience in writing well-structured, maintainable, and reliable code
  • profound skills in several programming languages, including Python and Java
  • extensive web engineering experience using frameworks such as React.js, and experience in Linux systems
  • You know how to automate, ship, deploy, document, and operate production level applications and services
  • You value agile software development, and you are familiar with the respective methods, processes, and frameworks of agile project management
  • experience in developing and operation machine-learning models, solution architecture of on-premises and cloud deployments, DevOps, UX
  • profound experience with deployment tooling like Docker and Kubernetes
  • knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), and modern, scalable storage technologies (e.g., S3), knowledge of distributed DB engines (e.g., Elasticsearch) and knowledge of data processing technologies (e.g., Airflow, Spark) are huge plus
  • familiar with deep learning techniques and frameworks such as Pytorch, TensorFlow, Keras, etc.), and writing Helm charts for Kubernetes deployments are a plus

Enthusiasm: for fully automated, tested, continuously deployed, and delivered services, interested in bringing latest research solutions into projects and services

Languages: fluent in English (written and spoken)
