Responsible for overall operations structure and community management of the Chicago Connectory. Successful operations plays a pivotal role in building the community, partner and member management of the Chicago Connectory. The Operations and Community Lead is responsible for creating an incredible work experience for our members and partners, and for managing overall day-to-day of the Chicago Connectory, while contributing to larger global operations strategy of the Connectory network and future locations. This position will work primarily out of the Chicago Connectory in the Merchandise Mart in downtown Chicago.

You enjoy working with people of all backgrounds, community building and creating impact through process improvement and communication. You operate in “startup mode”, jumping in to help where needed and are focused on contributing to the accomplishments of the entire organization.

Job Responsibilities

  • Facilitate outstanding customer service with office support team to all members and guests
  • Manage daily office operations and office support team
  • Directly manage facilities-related issues with the office support team
  • Build and refine processes for strategic planning and operations that allow us to scale
  • Oversee accounts payable and procurement processes: vendor invoices; follow up on payment inquiries
  • Own and negotiate facilities contracts with vendors that support repair and maintenance
  • Manage membership process
  • Oversee events team (planning execution) and act as liaison with the communication team for Connectory activities
  • Manage community initiatives designed to develop member relationships and growth
  • Assist Connectory team in implementing setup of strategic programming and educational experiences
  • Coordinate with events team to organize marketing, communication and event logistics
  • Contribute to other projects related to marketing and overall growth strategy (community building, membership, events, partnerships)
  • Work with Connectory team to foster co-innovation projects, innovation culture and connecting corporates with the startup ecosystem


  • Previous operations, facilities and office experience with a good sense of space aesthetics
  • Event and community management experience
  • Strong communication skills with understanding of marketing strategy (social media, website etc.)
  • Ability to connect easily with others and identifying new business opportunities
  • Ability to perform tasks autonomously and complete work in a timely manner
  • Strong organizational, scheduling, execution and project management skills; ability to handle multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Able to work in a group setting with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, positive attitude, willing and interested in problem solving and continuous improvement
  • Experience using MS Office Suite (eg. PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Creative Suite (eg. Illustrator)
  • Excellent English language skills, written and verbal
