Job Description

Bosch Packaging Technology leads the world in breadth and sophistication of packaging systems for food and pharmaceutical packaging. Because of rapidly growing demand for automation in North America, we are seeking a highly motivated Controls Engineer to provide innovative packaging machinery solutions to our customers. This engineer will work as part of a team of mechanical, controls and software engineers to bring both standard and custom solutions to our customers packaging needs that enable our customers to excel in highly competitive industries.

  • Support the electrical/software group with development of PLC and PC based controls platforms and software solutions for automated packaging machinery and systems.

  • Support the development and maintenance of engineering libraries including electrical diagrams, software and general electrical/software documentation.

  • Perform all necessary engineering and machine calculations for proper design of electrical and controls systems.

  • Execute projects and customer orders including electrical schematics, software, bills of material, and engineering change notices.

  • Support technical manuals and training departments by helping to create functional description documents for machine lines and specific machine functions.

  • Provide technical support to customers, customer service, sales engineering and project team engineers and technicians when required.

  • Research new technologies to gain competitive advantage as well as for providing a proactive response to component obsolescence.

  • Support Bosch continuous improvement activities, engineering processes and production activities when required.

  • Maintain compliance with Bosch company policies, quality standards and industry safety standards.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Travel Expectation:

    * Travel as required to support Bosch development projects, machine installations, service and training (<20%).

    * Travel with short notice and International travel may be required.
    * Valid driver’s license and passport required.

    Other Workplace Considerations:

    * Office environment and working around machinery.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  •  BS Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electromechanical, Mechatronics or Mechanical).
  •  3+ years' experience in an engineering position.               
  •  3+ years of experience with CAD/CAE software such as AutoCAD or ePlan P8 for the design and/or maintenance of electrical diagrams and design of electrical panels. 
  • 5+ years experience working with Rockwell hardware platforms and the design of those packages for use in machine and multi-axis motion control applications for automated packaging machinery including Horizontal Form Fill Seal Wrappers and Vertical Form Fill Seal Baggers. This includes ControlLogix, CompactLogix series controllers and Kinetix, PowerFlex series drives. Knowledge of legacy hardware platforms such as MicroLogix and SLC controllers is desirable as well.

  • 5+ years experience working with Rockwell software platforms and the design of those packages for use in machine and multi-axis motion control applications for automated packaging machinery including Horizontal Form Fill Seal Wrappers and Vertical Form Fill Seal Baggers. This includes RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, Studio5000 and FactoryTalk View ME.

  • 5+ years experience working with Rexroth Servo Drives and motors for use in automated packaging machinery.

  • 3+ years of experience with AC/DC circuits for the proper design of machine and electrical control systems with the ability to use all applicable engineering calculations to properly size components used within those systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in managing multiple tasks simultaneously while accepting changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Experience working with Wonderware software and Beckhoff TwinCAT PLC and System Manager Software.

  • Basic knowledge of industrial design standards relevant to automated packaging machinery including UL508A, CE, NFPA and OSHA.

  • Proficient in the use of SAP and Microsoft Office Suit tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)

  • Basic knowledge of safety of machinery risk assessment, and related standards.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude or basic knowledge of automated machinery.

  • Must be self-motivated having the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Represent the company in a professional manner and have a commitment to company values.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel, from production to management.

  • Strong customer service focus.
