Job Description

The Residential Ducted Product AME Engineering Leader is responsible for leading laboratory operations, model shop activities, sustaining engineering, Engineering Services and value engineering initiatives (VAVE) for Residential Ducted Systems across the AME region. This role ensures that purchased components and systems meet performance, cost, quality, and compliance requirements through robust testing, supplier collaboration, and engineering support. The position plays a critical role in driving product validation, cost optimization, and lifecycle support while enabling efficient product development and reliable field performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-site laboratory operations, model shop, and testing activities to validate product performance, safety, and regulatory compliance labs
  • Oversight for product reliability and regulatory compliance of product 
  • Oversee sustaining engineering efforts, supporting field issues, production challenges, and continuous product improvements
  • Drive Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to achieve cost reduction targets without compromising quality or performance
  • Partner with purchasing and suppliers to improve component design, manufacturability, and cost through engineering and testing insights
  • Manage product testing programs, including performance ratings, reliability testing, and certification processes (e.g., safety agencies)
  • Oversight of business operations including engineering, change management, and SAP variant configuration capabilities 
  • Improve laboratory throughput, reduce testing cycle times, and optimize resource utilization across facilities
  • Support control systems strategy and validation for residential ducted products
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, quality, procurement, and product management to ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and quality standards across North America
  • Lead, coach, and develop a multi-layered team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field  
  • 15+ years of experience in purchasing engineering, product validation, testing, or sustaining engineering within manufacturing or HVAC
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, product testing standards, and regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., UL, AHRI, DOE)
  • Experience working with suppliers on technical components, validation, and cost optimization initiatives
  • Experience in VAVE, cost reduction, and product lifecycle support

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing laboratory operations, testing facilities, or model shops
  • Knowledge of controls systems and embedded applications in HVAC products
  • Experience supporting product certification and regulatory agency interactions
  • Exposure to global product development and multi-site operations
  • Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, and supplier quality processes
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and product development cycles
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to influence technical and business stakeholders
