Job Description

The Communications Specialist is responsible for leading and managing internal and external communications. They will manage and improve all our communications flows, within and outside of our company. This individual will develop key communications pieces and programs while working collaboratively with our executive team, directors and internal stakeholders. They will work to promote Booksource and our products, services, vision, mission and people.

Qualifications

Your Contribution to the Team Includes

  • Draft and edit speeches, presentations and other executive communications for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Develop media relations strategies, PR plans and other planning efforts tied to the Marketing department’s campaigns and initiatives.

  • Assist with developing and proposing integrated communications programs that consider a strategic use of all available channels and resources - media and influencer relations, digital communications, social media strategy, research, etc.

  • Assist the Social Media Specialist with influencer marketing and relations.

  • Write press releases and oversee their distribution. Create and manage a database of key journalists and influencers.

  • Manage a byline placement program to grow brand awareness by securing guest authorship in media publications.

  • Pitch media and ensure media results. Must have advanced knowledge of top-tier business and trade media, and well-developed skills in building and maintaining traditional and digital media relationships. A demonstrated hands-on media approach is required.

  • Assist the Director of Marketing with tracking and reporting on all communications programs.

  • Assist the Director of Marketing with digital advertising strategy and management. Oversee advertising efforts, including vendor management.

  • Superior writing skills and the ability to develop and edit high-quality materials such as news and online media materials, bylined articles, blogs, executive correspondence and presentations.

  • Develop a process and subject matter segments for spokespeople and manage a speakers bureau program, including drafting and submitting conference and trade show abstracts.

  • Manage company awards program, including researching, drafting and overseeing the submission process.

  • < >evelop crisis preparation and response plans, building core messages, conducting reputation repair efforts and overseeing news media relations – reactive and proactive – in light of a crisis.

    Monitor and analyze media coverage of current events and public opinion, and alert management to any relevant issues or risks.

     

    What You’ll Need to be Successful

  • 5+ years of Strategic Communication experience to both internal stakeholders and external customers

  • Experience creating, editing and distributing world-class communication

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal – creating, distributing and managing the process

  • Ability to initiate and execute complex, cross-functional projects with minimal guidance

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting to internal executive stakeholders

  • Working knowledge of social media platforms and the online community

  • Exceptional organizational abilities – prioritizing multiple tasks and projects while meeting deadlines

  • Ability to work independently as well as with collaboratively with others
  • Critical attention to detail with strong follow-up and follow-through
