Head of Marketing

  • Full-time

Company Description

Bonfire Ventures is an early stage venture capital firm focused on leading seed stage investments in B2B software companies, especially in Southern California.  We are committed investors who are heavily involved and ‘hands-on” with our entrepreneurs as they and their companies progress through their journeys. We take pride as a team in being authentic, responsive and impactful to all of our stakeholders: entrepreneurs, co-investors, and limited partners.

Job Description

As our Head of Marketing, you would be our brand builder and own all things “marketing” at Bonfire. More specifically, we would look to you to raise our “game and gaze” in how we market:

  • Bonfire’s unique approach and value proposition to prospective entrepreneurs

  • Bonfire’s investment strategy and returns to existing and prospective fund investors

  • Bonfire’s portfolio companies’ products and success to their potential markets

  • Bonfire’s founders’ learnings & best practices to their peers within our portfolio

  • Bonfire’s commitment to broader diversity across the entire early-stage start-up ecosystem

Specific Responsibilities

As our Head of Marketing, you already rule as a marketer and will likely determine the best course of action to achieve your and the firm’s goals. That being said, we would look for you to drive marketing excellence across these domains at a minimum:

  • Break-through brand marketing that raises our awareness across the appropriate press & social media channels

  • Amazing content marketing that accentuates our “how-to” thought leadership that is followed by many

  • Engaging virtual and in-person event marketing that inspires and educates our multiple constituents

  • Top-notch product marketing that nails our value prop to LPs for our future fundraising efforts

  • Effective partner marketing that amplifies our reach and voice in concert with our co-investor friends

Qualifications

Leading candidates for this position should have the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a well-regarded university; masters degrees are a plus

  • 3 to 5+ years minimum of professional experience, with preference to experience in technology, marketing, venture capital, or startup environments

  • A proven track record in marketing with demonstrated strengths in content marketing, event marketing, and media relations

  • Extensive full-stack marketing b2b experience at a technology company, with a strong preference for experience at fast-growing software companies

More important than what you have done is who you are and what inspires you. To that end, ideal candidates are:

  • Story-tellers - You possess an uncanny ability to weave a tale and inject the appropriate narrative in all that you do.

  • Self-starters - You thrive operating in an independent, unstructured environment and comfortably take the lead on initiatives.

  • Precise - You would rather do a few amazing things than many poorly. The details matter to you in all your marketing endeavors.

  • Passionate - You have a passion for entrepreneurship and possess a servant mindset to support the broader technology ecosystem.

  • Amplifiers - You broadcast your “people & products” relentlessly, albeit in an authentic and trustworthy manner that draws people in.

  • Hands-On - You know how to do the actual work and are adept in mail chimp, square space, and the marketing tool kit.
