We’re looking for a dynamic leader with a background in early childhood education leadership to serve as our school’s Executive Director. 

Job Description

The Executive Director manages all aspects of the administration, working collaboratively with the staff, students, parents/caregivers, the Board of Directors, and other community members; the Director leads the day-to-day management of the school. The Director promotes and upholds the school's mission - to provide a warm and encouraging atmosphere where self-concept is enhanced, basic moral values instilled, social interaction encouraged, and awareness of the natural and cultural world is enriched - through staff education, family communication, and community outreach. The Board of Directors is responsible for the oversight of the Executive Director. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Serves as the leader of Bolton Hill Nursery 

  • Effectively and efficiently leads the school community in achieving the mission of Bolton Hill Nursery.
  • Builds a school culture that is welcoming and respects all staff, students, and families.
  • Promotes productive communication and teamwork among staff, teachers, and parents/caregivers.
  • Organizes and implements a visible, effective, and positive program for promoting BHN and its mission to the public.
  • Participate on the DEI committee and share in the school's dedication to DEI.
  • Lead and conduct the process of mission-aligned School improvement among Board and staff.
  • Directly monitors all school operations.
  • Maintains an active role in professional networks, and stays current in new developments in early childhood.
  • Actively participates as an institutional leader in the Bolton Hill community.
  • Communicates clearly and promptly with the Board in a way that fosters and promotes positive cooperative working relationships.
  • Clearly and as necessary, informs the Board about school operations and issues requiring Board input or direction in a timely manner.
  • Ensures compliance with all state and local licensing regulations.

Manages and Develops Staff

  • Directly oversees and appropriately manages staff recruitment, hiring, evaluation, performance, and retention. 
  • Supervises and mentors all staff and major responsibilities they execute, such as developing curriculum, assessments, and student activities. 
  • Develops and implements effective and cost-effective professional development plans for all staff.
  • Regularly and effectively provide mentoring opportunities for teaching staff.
  • Ensures teaching staff maintain compliance with state licensing regulations. 
  • Manage all aspects of staffing including attendance, vacations, and leave of absences that meet the needs of the staff and state requirements. 
  • Facilitates internal communication including weekly senior staff meetings and monthly all staff meetings.

Monitors and manages student life

  • Effectively and appropriately assists teachers in making sure students and families feel a part of the BHN community.
  • Is in regular attendance and full-time presence in support of students and staff; ensuring the needs of students are met.
  • Teaches in the classroom when necessary.

Responsibly manage the finances and operations of BHN

  • Works effectively with the Board to establish sound and responsible budgeting and spending practices.
  • Prepares and manages the annual budget in partnership with the Board.
  • Oversees the preparation of financial reports with the board and external accounting firm.
  • Assists the Financial Administrator to ensure timely collection of tuition and fee payments and work with families to resolve payment issues. 
  • Ensures accurate record-keeping for staff, all student records, parent/caregiver contracts, financial records, maintenance and inspection logs.
  • Collaborates with the Board to coordinate fundraising efforts.
  • Maintains enrollment contracts with families.
  • Ensures the overall maintenance and safety of the building and grounds. 

Serves as a positive interface with the community

  • Partners with parents/caregivers in the educational process.
  • Builds relationships with community organizations and business for the benefit of BHN.
  • Generates prompt, regular, and parent-friendly school communications.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with all vital people connected to the
    school (outside of the immediate staff) for the relational health of BHN.
  • Develops and maintains vital professional relationships with educational agencies for compliance and accomplishing the educational goals of BHN.
  • Oversees all admissions activities including tours to prospective families and correspondence.
  • Conducts annual surveys of staff, families, board, and community at large to assess and improve  the reputation of the School.

Qualifications

  • Must meet Maryland Preschool Director Licensure requirements or ability to obtain within six months.
  • 5-7+ years of professional experience in Early Childhood Education. 
  • Higher education degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Leadership experience including staff supervision and school programming with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Experience with a non-profit and Board highly valued.
  • Completed Professional Development and/or Continuing Education coursework in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Must have or obtain First Aid and CPR certification. 
  • Must be eligible and authorized to work in the United States. 

Additional Information

Physical Demands and Work Environment: This position is on-site Monday through Friday. The physical demands of the job are consistent with those typically required to navigate an early childhood classroom. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 annually, plus benefits package including medical, paid time off, and a retirement plan. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
