Position Description

The Community Engagement Manager (CEM) manages and implements BWB’s community engagement strategy and plan. This position works with program staff to recruit, train and manage volunteers to meet BWB’s goals and needs and ensure that all projects feature quality volunteer engagement. This position reports to the Senior Director of Operations.

Responsibilities

Engagement Planning & Coordination

  • Work with Restoration, Herring Run Nursery, Waterkeeper, Advocacy, Communications, and Bookkeeper staff to:
    • Serve as a key point of contact for community leaders and partner organizations across BWB’s programs and engagement areas.
      Participate in community meetings & organizing events to learn about community concerns, share information on BWB activities and initiatives, and connect residents to resources.
    • Deepen and widen organizational relationships with residents and local community groups and partners by developing and managing authentic outreach and community feedback processes.
    • Ensure that engagement events are accessible and implemented with an equity lens.
    • Work with staff to manage recruitment, training, and engagement of volunteers before, during, and after events.
    • Collect, enter, and manage volunteer data in Salesforce.
    • Aid in the collection of stories and photographs to convey the impact of BWB’s work.
    • Plan and implement volunteer appreciation events throughout the year.

Support BWB Programs' Engagement Work

  • Work with the Restoration Team to:
    • Support the planning and community engagement for volunteer-based restoration projects (tree plantings and green stormwater projects).
    • Developing strategic outreach plans in coordination with community members and/or places of worship to ensure comprehensive, equitable, timely, and coordinated outreach efforts to increase likelihood that events have enough volunteers and community support for success.
    • Developing outreach and engagement materials for restoration projects (door hangers, mailers, etc).
  • Work with Staff to:
    • Schedule outreach activities with BWB staff such as door knocking, attending community events, and working on social media or community email lists.
  • Work with Waterkeeper staff to: 
    • Plan, recruit volunteers for, facilitate, and follow up with volunteers for Outfall Screening Blitzes. 
    • Coordinate and facilitate community science programming and events.
    • Increase community engagement around BWB’s regulatory enforcement work.
  • Work with Senior Manager of Advocacy & Outreach to: 
    • Engage community members in BWB’s policy advocacy work by increasing community awareness of and facilitating engagement in policy advocacy opportunities. 

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience working with volunteers or engaging communities in advocacy, education, and/or restoration projects
  • Demonstrated project management skills including logistics and personnel.  
  • Knowledge and use of databases to track volunteers and community partners (i.e. Salesforce).
  • Organized and motivated individual able to manage projects and programs independently. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings for volunteer and engagement events (schedule would vary throughout the year with more events during Spring to Fall).

Salary Range: $45k-$55k commensurate with experience
