Job Description

The Data Platform and Warehouse Manager role will oversee the data implementations at BlueScope, with direct management over Data Analytics, Data Engineering, and Data Architecture. The position will work directly with Data Governance to ensure data integrity. This role will regularly interact with technical and business stakeholders across varying levels, internal and external to the organization.

  • Engage with business units to understand and help drive data solutions
  • Data Architecture Design: Lead the design and development of scalable and efficient data architecture solutions that align with business objectives and support data-driven decision-making. Define data models, schemas, and standards to ensure consistency, integrity, and interoperability across systems and applications.
  • Platform Management: Oversee the selection, implementation, and administration of data management platforms, including databases, data warehouses, data lakes, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tools. Ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security of data platforms through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and optimization efforts.
  • Data Integration: Manage data integration processes and tools to facilitate the seamless flow of data between disparate systems and sources. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify integration requirements, develop data pipelines, and automate data workflows for improved efficiency and accuracy.

  • Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies, standards, and best practices to ensure the integrity, privacy, and security of organizational data assets. Define data management roles and responsibilities, oversee data access controls, and implement data quality and lineage tracking mechanisms.

  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of data architects, database administrators, and platform engineers. Define team goals and objectives, foster a culture of collaboration and innovation, and support professional development and growth opportunities.

  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including business leaders, IT teams, data scientists, and analysts, to understand data requirements, prioritize initiatives, and deliver solutions that meet business needs.

  • Communicate effectively with executive leadership to provide updates, insights, and recommendations related to data architecture and platforms.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of equivalent work
  • Proven experience (4 years) in data architecture, database management, and platform administration, with a focus on enterprise-scale environments.
  • Experience in designing and implementing dimensional data models.
  • Strong technical expertise in database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL), data warehousing concepts (e.g., star schema, data vault), and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with data integration tools, ETL processes, and data governance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply technology solutions to business problems.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams to achieve strategic goals and objectives.
  • Experience with visualization tools such as Power BI

Preferred:

  • 7+ years in data and analytics role with a minimum of 3 years of IT Service Delivery Management or Business Engagement.
  • 2+ years leading a data group or architecting data solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team delivering Data solutions to large, complex organizations.
  • Domain experience in Reporting and Visualization technologies.
  • Experience in implementing Row Level Security within databases and/or visualization tools.
  • Experience in designing and implementing dimensional data models.
  • Experience building out Data Governance policy.
