Job Description

The Engineering department provides superior design and detailing for all company divisions.  They deliver exceptional customer service and satisfaction and provide high quality design and detailing.  The team ensures applicable engineering standards are met and that efficiency and effectiveness is maximized across the company, which differentiates BlueScope from competitors. 

The Manager, Engineering Development leads the Engineering organization to ensure excellent and efficient responses to customers.  They support the hiring process and maintain onboarding development training plans.  The Manager works with the Engineering leadership team to utilize common role objectives and KPI’s for each role, tracking, individual assessments and evaluation, and rating standards.  They manage the assessment process of organizational capabilities and in conjunction with Engineering leadership, utilize results of technical competency testing to create development plans. The Manager also coordinates training requirements with the training team and creates and leads virtual teams to develop training content. 

  • Create and maintain training content for Engineering on engineering software, product training, engineering designs, and technical training on engineering standards that prepare team members for next level roles within the Engineering department.  Coordinate with the Innovation training team to deliver training content in a consistent method for Engineering.
  • Support Engineering management to create and manage development plans which include training plans including, but not limited to, new hire, technical growth, new technologies, and soft skills. 
  • Maintain company engineering standards for role expectations, common role objectives, KPIs, and assess capabilities, process, and methods. 
  • Support the hiring process for Engineering roles by ensuring consistent interviewing methods, assisting in proactive recruitment efforts across North America, and creating and maintaining relationships with key engineering resource contacts such as universities, engineering counsels, etc.  

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering
  • 4-years Engineering design experience 
  • Proven track record of leading high-performance teams 

Preferred:

  • 5 years of experience managing a team
  • Knowledge of company product and engineering procedures
  • Knowledge of company engineering documentation
  • Teaching experience
