Job Description
The Wet Section Operator is responsible for maintaining the continuous operation of the chemical and waste treatment equipment. The Wet Section Operator is responsible for chemical and waste treatment equipment and facilities including various checking and testing of equipment as well as mixing and material handling equipment.
- Responsible for working with chemical and waste treatment equipment and facilities.
- Responsible for collecting, storing, packaging, and labeling of hazardous waste in compliance with EPA, DOT and GDNR regulations. (i.e. waste oil, wastewater treatment sludge, waste clean – up solvent, waste flammable rags and waste chromate solution) Delivers waste oil to the waste treatment area via forklift.
- Responsible for the performance of weekly inspections of the waste storage areas in compliance with EPA, GDNR and County of Cobb requirements. Responsible for profiling new sources of RCRA hazardous waste and non- RCRA hazardous waste with our certified waste-treatment company.
- Responsible for creating shipping papers and hazardous waste manifests in compliance with EPA, GDNR and County of Cobb requirements.
- Responsible for treating and discharging waste process water, maintaining a daily log sheet, and maintaining a daily tank inspection sheet in compliance with EPA, and the Cobb County Water Department permit guidelines.
- Responsible for maintaining, repairing and calibrating equipment such as pumps, mixers, pH probes, ORP probes, tanks, filter bags, pipes and sludge hoppers.
- Responsible for filing maintenance work order requests for items that needs repair such as electrical issues, welding issues etc.
- Responsible for mixing and utilizing chemicals for water treatment such as polymers coagulants, reducing agents buffering solutions, acids and caustics and for receiving treatment chemicals.
- Responsible for troubleshooting abnormal water flow conditions such as wet section problems, brush unit problems flow restrictions etc.
- Responsible for assisting regulatory agencies and our testing company with the set up and removal of wastewater flow composites. Also interfaces with hazardous waste disposal drivers and customer service personnel.
- Responsible for testing water quality by qualitative analysis. (e.g. utilizing pH probes, conductivity meters Chemetrics analyzers. Also troubleshoots water chemistry problems by jar testing etc.
- Responsible for chemical mixing and material handling equipment.
- Responsible for monitoring automated equipment to maintain an acceptable level of quality and product.
- Responsible for maintaining and monitoring oil skimmer and brush machine stations.
- Responsible for unloading, receiving and recording usage of chemicals for chemical and waste treatment area.
- Responsible for the performance and recording results of tank solution samples, and titration tests.
- Responsible for directing and participating in all chemical and waste treatment tank maintenance, cleaning and recharging activities.
- Responsible for maintaining and storing all hazardous waste material per specified state, county and federal regulations.
- Responsible for directing and participating in all hazardous waste shipments.
- Responsible for performing chemical inventories when required.
- Responsible for understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System in place at Metal Coaters of Georgia.
- Communicates daily with internal personnel from Production and Quality Control to assist in resolving problems and achieving company goals.
- If (in the event of an abnormal occurrence) an employee feels uncomfortable, unsure or unable to safely correct an issue, that employee must contact a member of plant leadership for assistance prior to attempting to correct the issue.
Qualifications

- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and three years of related work experience is required. Must complete hazardous material handling, hazardous material/waste shipping and emergency response training.
Ability to read and comprehend document’s including: safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and simple correspondence. Also must have the ability to communicate information (in small group and one on one situation) to other employees.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as: fractions, percentages, area, circumference, volume and densities.
Ability to apply: common sense understanding to perform work instructions that are furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Have the ability to solve problems, which involve multiple variables in a standard situation. Also, must have the ability to make, common sense work related decisions without supervision.
Incumbent is required to drive a forklift and use power tools.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to: walk, stand, sit, bend, squat, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance. The employee will be required to lift a minimum weight of 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
While performing the duties of this job the employee will occasionally perform duties near moving mechanical parts, be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, wastes solids, waste liquids extreme cold or heat and rain. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate.
