BlueScope Steel is an independent diversified steel producer operating in demanding marketplaces both domestically and internationally.  International Markets, the International Sales and Marketing Team for BlueScope Steel, is responsible for selling, marketing and managing the supply variations from BlueScope Steel manufacturing operations, located in Australia, New Zealand, the USA and throughout Asia.  Also the International Markets team will at times be required to maintain a presence in specific markets which are deemed strategic with sales of feed from third party sources. Those same sources could also support BlueScope Steel operations. The International Markets Team can and will often play a role in facilitating the sourcing responsibilities for the JV and specific BlueScope businesses.

Organizationally, BlueScope Steel Americas reports into ASP – International Markets and is accountable to the Manager International Markets located in Australia. BlueScope Steel Americas does have an indirect reporting line into the Nth American business given the inherent proximity and the critical need to interact and support the local business.

Under this model, BlueScope Steel Americas is accountable for: 

  • All sales and marketing activities of BlueScope Steel product from outside of the USA into North and South America and Europe. 
  • Global Export Sales of BlueScope Steel USA manufactured coil product when applicable.
  • Export /import management of third party material or from the USA Joint Venture as and when the business makes sense.
  • Select Logistical activities within and from the USA including import & export management, most important for the USA Customs compliance due to the Enforce act.

Job Description

The purpose of this role is to manage an assigned territory – specifically Caribbean and Latin America including Mexico to achieve a designated sales target level and to develop profitable business with new and existing customers, whilst managing supply variations from BlueScope Steel and third-party Mills. 

This is achieved by:

  • Develop our strategy for the region taking into consideration the use of agents vs doing business direct.
  • The role will also encourage the development of new markets for our Asian JV partners.
  • Servicing current accounts and developing new accounts to meet sales targets through effective use of account management processes.
  • Monitoring developments in the assigned territory to identify opportunities for BlueScope Steel products.
  • Securing orders within credit guidelines, determine price within guidelines, arrange delivery dates and other matters to facilitate sales.
  • Gain and communicate product knowledge on new products, competitors’ products and other general market information of interest or value.
  • Obtain market intelligence, particularly prevailing pricing information and communicate to all stakeholders.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • 5 years' experience in a sales, marketing or commercial environment in Latin America.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English

Preferred:

  • Steel experience a plus
  • Fluent in Portuguese highly desired
