Job Description

The Network Architect plans, coordinates, architects, and supervises activities related to the development and integration of systems and networks to meet business requirements of the organization. The Network Architect designs, deploys, and migrates systems and networks for cloud and physical data center environments. They identify and select appropriate services and hardware based on requirements and constraints and use deep subject matter expertise to evaluate new technologies for fit in current infrastructure architecture. The Systems Architect prioritizes current operational demands, disruptions, and opportunities with the longer-term strategic vision of the organization. They provide technology guidance, road maps, principles, standards, and best practices for the team and for the enterprise. The System Architect also develops and maintains an infrastructure blueprint for the organization.

The Network Architect will have the ability to balance business strategic needs while ensuring the suitability of design against the specific needs of the business. This position also requires working knowledge of frameworks like ITIL, and TOGAF, and will be able to develop and/or provide governance over project solution architectures across all network domains (i.e. LAN, WAN, Remote Access, and network security etc.)  

The Network Architect will (on some occasions) manage technical team members in the delivery of a project, and will generally be required to provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to less-experienced individuals.

  • Review, interpret, and respond to detailed business requirements specifications to ensure alignment between business expectations and current or future IT capability.

  • Provide input to the strategic direction of Network investments to assist in the development of the network architecture and maximize the return on technology investment.

  • Within the agreed enterprise architecture, define and design network solutions to assist the business in meeting their business objectives.

  • Develop, test and implement network solutions and report on delivery commitments to ensure solutions are implemented as expected and to agreed timeframes.

  • Adhere to architecture processes and deliverables in accordance with the project delivery methodology.

  • Provide assistance in the development of BlueScope Business and IT Strategy leveraging knowledge in emerging and developing processes and technology trends in positioning the organization for competitive success and realizing efficiencies towards operational excellence.

  • Oversee Infrastructure Life Cycle management for Enterprise resources and assets

  • Provide guidance on the development of, and modifications to, solution components to ensure they take account of relevant architectures, strategies, policies, standards and practices and remain compatible with existing components

  • Participate on On – Call rotation within the network team

  • Support Business Managers and Stakeholders with project shaping, delivery paths, market analysis, proof of concepts and that initiatives are aligned to ASP Delivery Methodology and IT Architecture Standards.

Qualifications

​​​​Minimum:       

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of additional relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 10 years of professional enterprise network administration/engineering/architecture experience
  • Experience in network administration and enterprise level architectural designs
  • Experience overseeing the linking of cross-functional business systems
  • Strong background in risk management, the infrastructure lifecycle, data center and/or cloud planning
  • Strong understanding of end-user needs and requirements
  • Deep knowledge in firewalls, routers, switches, load balancers, SD-WAN, wireless networks, monitoring tools and vulnerability assessments, cloud architecture and integration, and business resiliency

Preferred:        

  • 10 years of professional enterprise network administration/engineering/architecture experience
  • 3 years Network Architecture Experience
  • Certifications in relevant technology
