Job Description

Summary:

The Paint Line Crew Chief is responsible for ensuring safe, productive and orderly function of the paint line. The Paint Line Crew Chief ensures that communication occurs amongst the crewmembers regarding the production sequence and issues pertaining to the operation of the paint line itself. The Paint Line Crew Chief is responsible for monitoring the cleaning, pre-treating, and quenching sections of the paint line while production occurs. The Crew Chief is also responsible for ensuring that defective product is detected by the paint line crew and properly quarantined according to standard HFI procedures.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring safe, productive and orderly function of the paint line. Reports directly to the Production Leader.
  • Responsible for ensuring that communication occurs amongst the individual members of the paint line crew regarding the production sequence and issues pertaining to the operation of the paint line.
  • Responsible for monitoring the cleaning and quenching processes to ensure that both processes function properly to promote product quality.
  • Responsible for ensuring that defective material (raw and/or finished) is detected and quarantined by the paint line crew. Provides information to Quality Control for the proper disposition of defective material.
  • Responsible for maintaining operating knowledge of all of the Paint Line equipment and processes in order to provide assistance to the operator in any area of the paint line at any given time.
  • Responsible for performing the duties of any of the various paint line operators when necessary due to break relief, illness, etc.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System in place at Metal Coaters of Georgia, Inc.
  • Communicates daily with internal personnel from Maintenance, Materials Management, Production and Quality Control in order to resolve problems and help achieve company goals.
  • If (in the event of an abnormal occurrence) an employee feels uncomfortable, unsure or unable to safely correct an issue, that employee must contact a member of plant leadership for assistance prior to attempting to correct the issue.

Environmental Impacts of this Position

The Paint-Line Crew Chief has a responsibility to take all foreseeable precautions to avoid environmental impacts such as, but not limited to the release of oils, grease, solvents and various other chemicals into the atmosphere, storm drain’s and/or soil, while performing daily duties. Is responsible for the supervision of employees in the same precautions. Caution needs to be taken to avoid spills and good housekeeping practices must be assured as a preventative measure. If a spill occurs MCG-527 Spill Response Log and Report Procedure must be followed.

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or (GED)

Language Skills:

The ability to, read and comprehend documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and simple correspondence. Also, the ability to, communicate information (in small group situations) to other employees.

Mathematical Skills:

The ability to, calculate figures and amounts such as fractions and percentages.

Reasoning Ability:

The ability to, apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions that are furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Also, the ability to, solve problems, which involve multiple variables in a standard situation.

Other Skills & Abilities:

Incumbent is required to drive a forklift, operate an overhead crane and use power tools.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; bend; stoop; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance. The employee will be required to be capable of lifting a minimum weight of 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee performs near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate.
