Job Description

Senior Financial Analyst, FP&A:

  • Creates sustainable value as a trusted business partner, supporting and advising across the business to drive strategy and performance
  • Provides financial analysis to facilitate commercial decision making for the profitable outcomes, while considering the risk profiles and appetites of the business
  • Ensures the integrity of information used for financial analysis, decision making, and reporting.
  • Assists in translating business objectives into strategies, actions, and targets

Strategy:  Providing financial leadership; driving strategic business direction, performance and opportunities

  • Understands the broader business strategy and how Finance and Accounting impacts and helps to drive the desired outcomes and targets set for the business
  • Provide management and leadership robust, thorough, and timely financial analysis underpinning strategic decision making and progress towards strategic initiatives
  • Participates in commercial and strategic business projects as assigned by leadership or corporate, including M&A activity
  • Participates in the integration efforts for the accounting and finance function as the business adapts the FP&A function to conform with BlueScope standard practices.  This will be an iterative process working towards the Target Operating Model and will work closely with our business partners and IT.
  • Support the company’s senior leadership team via the preparation of material for presentation and discussion
  • Provides data and insights relevant to the development of plans and strategies to achieve goals, objectives, and targets for BlueScope Coated Products to drive decision making
  • Involvement in strategic pricing initiatives working closely with the Strategic Marketing team

Business performance:  Driving business performance and improvement to optimize commercial and broader business outcomes. 

  • Partners with the finance team and business to drive business performance and improvement to optimize commercial and broader business outcomes, including ad hoc needs of the management
  • Provide timely, high quality, accurate financial information, and advice to finance and business management regarding actual, forecast, and budgeted results for the business unit – including sensitivity and scenario analysis when necessary
  • Drives the detailed processes to consolidate and report forecasts, budgets and 3-year business plans
  • Analyzes market activity to understand the impact of trends and competitive forces and the impact to financial forecasts and properly articulates expected outcomes to management
  • Assists in the review process for assessment of new capital request and perform analysis as needed including forecasted capital expenditures.  
  • Assists in development of financial plan for forecasting and analysis
  • Continuous improvement of reporting accuracy, timeliness, and presentation to management
  • Build verification processes to ensure business forecast is accurate and thorough
  • Provide analysis on forecast and budgets to management for cost efficiencies

Innovation:  Driving change and enabling innovation across the business and finance function to deliver value for external and internal customers.  Improved performance (Continuous Improvement) through change:

  • Drive change and enable innovation across the business and Finance function to deliver value for external and internal customers
  • Deliver continuous improvement in the quality of financial reporting and outputs (ensure finance team and tools stay relevant to the market through digitalization initiatives) – leveraging technology and utilizing the methodology of eliminating, standardizing, optimizing, automation and robotics – Finding better ways to do things through digital tools and processes

Governance:  Ensuring the integrity of information used for financial analysis, decision making and external reporting

  • Enable greater access and use of data to support insight and analysis.  Includes adoption of common data definitions and policies with data lineage clearly defined across the business
  • Develops and applies BlueScope’s Finance governance frameworks and standards that govern information and data used for decision making and internal and external reporting purposes (getting the basics right)
  • Adopts an integrated approach to reporting and analysis, including an understanding use of relevant non-financial information

 

Qualifications

Minimum:       

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • 7 years of financial analysis experience
  • Experience with forecasting and budgeting processes
  • Data analytics experience
  • Ability to provide high level management advice on business strategy, making recommendations that have a high business impact
  • Known for their business knowledge and functional skills at the highest company levels and regularly provides leadership and authority in relation to major projects and initiatives
  • Demonstrated success in simplifying, standardizing, and embedding business processes across organizational boundaries
  • Team player and ability to motivate people through collaborative skills
  • Ability to influence at all levels and manage a diverse range of stakeholders with different (and often competing) priorities

Preferred:       

  • Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • CPA certification
  • Oracle experience
  • Knowledge of steel industry
  • M&A and strategy experience
  • Knowledge of buildings & construction industry
