Job Description

Summary:

The Quality Systems Engineer is responsible for developing standard Quality Control procedures and ensuring that those procedures are followed at all times. The Quality Systems Engineer is also responsible for process and yield improvement activities on the coil coating line. The Quality Systems Engineer ensures calibration and control of all instruments utilized to evaluate the attributes of finished product. The Quality Systems Engineer controls and dispositions all non-compliant (HFI) materials (raw and finished) that are quarantined from a shop order.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • Implements and the enforcement of ISO-compliant Quality Control procedures throughout the processes at Metal Coaters
  • Responsible for process quality and yield improvement activities on the Coil Coating Line
  • Assumes an active role with regard to ISO auditing and compliance activities.
  • Performs daily analysis, disposition and management of non-compliant (HFI) material(s) diverted from the production process(s)
  • Tracks, manages and reports raw materials consumed on the coil coating line. This includes improving/eliminating the consumption of raw materials where possible, to reduce operating cost, without impacting the process or product liabilities of Metal Coaters
  • Analyzes process data via SPC methods, to validate or refine the Quality Control standards in place on the production line(s)
  • Develops and generates Process Control (KPI) and Product Quality/Performance reports as assigned.
  • Calibrates and controls all product-measuring devices used by production employees to test and evaluate product at Metal Coaters
  • Assists the Quality Technician with reviewing, approving and ensuring the correctness of the process parameters designed into each incoming shop order to Metal Coaters
  • Performs all of the functions of the Quality Technician when called upon due to vacation, illness or other reason for absence.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Managements systems in place at Metal Coaters
  • Responsible for communicating daily with all levels of employees in order to assist in resolving problems and achieving company goals.
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BSE) or related degree
  • A minimum 5 years of experience or related work experience is required  
  • Additional experience may be considered in lieu of the educational requirements

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend documents including but not limited to policy manuals, safety rules/programs, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and simple correspondence. In addition, the ability to communicate information effectively one-on-one, in small group situations and settings is required.   

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform general mathematic calculations including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, percentages, and statistics.  Some positions may require advance mathematics.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form a must.  In addition, the ability to solve problems, which involve multiple variables in a standard situation, is required.

 

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications 
  • Must be able to understand metal and paint characteristics.
  • Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with a diversified work force

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is frequently required to stand; sit; bend; stoop; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; lift; climb and/or balance for essential tasks. Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

 

Work Environment:

The employee may be required to enter areas that are near moving mechanical parts, with occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals, and extreme cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate, and may require the use of hearing protection. The employee will be required to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when accessing certain manufacturing areas.

 

Safety Responsibilities:

Before initiating work at Metal Coaters, the employee is required to read and understand the position’s Job Safety Analysis.  The employee must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and perform tasks in a manner consistent with NCI and Metal Coaters safety training, NCI Employee Manual and OSHA regulations.
