Job Description

The Risk & Insurance Manager supports the Director, Risk & Insurance (Director) as an internal expert for North American operations and divisions. The Risk & Insurance Manager provides counsel, advice, and reporting on a broad spectrum of risk-related issues (e.g., risk identification and mitigation strategies, insurance and non-insurance risks transfer strategies, loss funding and accrual requirements, and claims management activities).  While risk identification may include operational, strategic, financial and hazard risks, the scope of risk mitigation and transfer responsibilities are primarily centered on property, casualty and surety insurance programs (e.g., Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, Professional Liability, Automobile Liability, Pollution Liability, Fiduciary Liability, Builders Risk, Property, Contractors’ Equipment, and Surety Bonds). 

Primary responsibilities are focused on analysis to support North America domestic insurance programs; coordinating efforts with the company’s Corporate Risk Management function as it relates to the placement and oversight of the company’s global insurance programs (e.g., Excess Liability, Directors’ & Officers’ Liability, Crime, Marine Cargo, Property, etc.), and working with leaders across the business to identify risks and risk mitigation strategies for the business.

 

The Risk & Insurance Manager proactively ensures a balanced approach to managing uncertainty and risk in the delivery of strategic objectives and commercial outcomes.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyze renewal data while managing efforts for the placement of domestic North American insurance policies, surety bonds, and supporting administrative services (e.g., insurance brokers, third-party claims administrators, actuaries, risk management information systems)
  • Provide expert level assistance to business units and legal counsel during contract reviews and/or negotiations of insurance and indemnity provisions in leases and commercial and construction contracts and proposals to minimize the company’s exposure to risk.
  • Manage the effective and timely management of insurance certificates, both outgoing issued on behalf of the company for its various stakeholders, and incoming from company business partners (e.g., builders, contractors, vendors)
  • Work with internal management and legal teams, outside claim adjusters, insurers and outside legal counsel to 1) assure that claims are properly reported; 2) confirm that loss reserve reflect reasonable loss estimates; 3) develop and implement effective claim resolution strategies, and; 4) assure compliance with company Delegation of Authority guidelines for claim settlements.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management or Business Administration with concentration in risk management or accounting, or;
  • 10 years of multi-national risk management experience with experience in durable goods manufacturing, or commercial construction in lieu of degree
  • Experience in the negotiation and administration of contracts

Preferred

  • Coursework in Risk Management, Insurance, Business Administration, Finance
  • Completed designation courses from the Insurance Institute of America in any of the following areas: Risk Management (ARM); Claims (AIC); Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
  • Experience administering multi-state risk financing programs that include: monopolistic state funds; Incurred Loss Retro; Paid Loss Retro; High Deductible; and Captive Insurance programs.
