Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

(To include the following, others may be assigned)

  • Responsible for performing duties as outlined in the job descriptions depending on the particular task.
    • To roll form angles to standard stock requirements or to meet specific production orders.
  • Perform equipment setup for various angle line products.
    • Ensure quality requirements are met, including a uniform 90-degree break and proper length, etc.
    • Perform minor maintenance.
  • Maintain records including production, quality control, and downtime data.
  • Work from Shop Orders, schedules and special instructions. 
  • Responsible for keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System in place.
  • Communicates daily with internal personnel from Production and Quality Control in order to assist in resolving problems and achieving company goals.

Qualifications

Environmental Impacts of this Position:

The Machine Operator has a responsibility of avoiding environmental impacts such as; the release of: oils, grease from forklifts and cranes, solvents, paints, and various other chemicals by accidental puncture, while performing daily duties.  The Machine Operator also has the responsibility to recycle all recyclable materials such as: paper, plastics, cardboard, ink cartridges etc.  Good housekeeping practices are essential as a preventative measure.  If a spill occurs, the company's Spill Response, Log and Report Procedure must be followed.

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and simple correspondence. Also, the ability to communicate information (in small group situations) to other employees.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, area, circumference, volume and densities. Also, the ability to apply the concepts of statistics and probability to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions that are furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Also, the ability to solve problems, which involve multiple variables in a standard situation.

Other Skills & Abilities:

  • PC Skills are a must
  • Roll forming experience preferred
  • Overhead crane and forklift experience preferred

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance. Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

 Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally performs near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate.

Safety Responsibilities:

Before initiating work, the employee is required to read and understand the position’s Job Safety Analysis.  Employee must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and perform tasks in a manner consistent with BlueScope Coated Products safety training, the Employee Handbook, and OSHA regulations.
