Job Description

The primary function of the Technology Department is to achieve technology operational excellence and take a strategic role in driving business success and innovation.  This includes BlueScope’s strategic goal of significantly growing the business by leveraging industry leading digital innovation. The Technology Department includes technology used by both internal employees as well as customers, suppliers and other external stakeholders.   

The IT Manager’s role is to ensure the streamlined operation of the IT Department in alignment with the business objectives of the organization across multiple facilities. This individual will plan, coordinate, direct, and design IT-related activities of the organization, as well as provide administrative direction and support for daily operational activities of the IT department. The IT Manager will work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. This person will also define and implement IT policies, procedures, and best practices. The IT Manager must be a driven, self-starter with excellent leadership and project management skills.

  • Responsible for managing, developing and implementing division wide information systems and services.
  • Plan and manage resources to deliver the optimum computer solutions.
  • Promote systems solutions to management problems.
  • Develop division strategic plans in accordance with management expectations and needs, incorporate enterprise systems solutions, and support Corporate IT directions and goals.

Qualifications

Minimum: 

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other relevant discipline. 
  • 10 years in the Technology industry 
  • Proven track record of exceptional outcomes including the use of innovative technology solutions 
  • 5 years of leadership experience including demonstrated successful management of a functional team of 10 or more people 
  • Evidence of successfully leading medium/large scale projects 
  • Experience in managing a significant IT organization with annual budgets more than $3M 
  • Experience in implementing and managing complex business systems including ERP Systems 
  • Application Portfolio and Program Management experience. 
  • Understanding of System Development and System Support methodologies. 

Preferred: 

  • MBA with a Computer Science or Information Technology concentration 
  • Steel industry experience.  
  • Geographically mobile and able to travel between business sites.
