Job Description

Summary:

 

The QEMST is responsible for developing standard Quality Control procedures and ensuring that those procedures are always followed. The QEMST is also responsible for process and yield improvement activities on the coil coating line. The QEMST ensures calibration and control of all instruments utilized to evaluate the attributes of finished product. The QEMST controls and dispositions all non-compliant (HFI) materials (raw and finished) that are quarantined from a shop order.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:           

·         Implements and the enforcement of ISO-compliant Quality Control procedures throughout the processes at BlueScope.

·         Responsible for process quality and yield improvement activities on the Coil Coating Line.

·         Assumes an active role regarding ISO auditing and compliance activities.

·         Performs daily analysis, disposition and management of non-compliant (HFI) material(s) diverted from the production process(s) and processing claims.

·         Tracks, manages and reports raw materials consumed on the coil coating line. This includes improving/eliminating the consumption of raw materials where possible, to reduce operating cost, without impacting the process or product liabilities of BlueScope.

·         Analyzes process data via SPC methods, to validate or refine the Quality Control standards in place on the production line(s).

·         Develops and generates Process Control (KPI) and Product Quality/Performance reports as assigned.

·         Calibrates and controls all product-measuring devices used by production employees to test and evaluate product at BlueScope.

·         Assists the lab technician with reviewing, approving and ensuring the correctness of the process parameters designed into each incoming shop order to BlueScope.

·         Performs all of the functions of the lab tech when called upon due to vacation, illness or other reason for absence.

·         Responsible for understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Managements systems in place at BlueScope.

·         Responsible for communicating daily with all levels of employees in order to assist in resolving problems and achieving company goals.

·         Ensure compliance with federal and state laws.

·         Customer interaction; visits for quality issues.

·         Handling and packaging of waste, waste disposal.

·         Assists with Environmental sampling as needed to maintain compliance with environmental permits.

·         Oversee quality control testing program.

·         Trial product oversight/trial product testing/results.

·         Perform all duties in a safe manner.

Education and/or Experience:

 

·         Bachelor’s Degree (BSE) or related degree preferred. 

·         A minimum 5 years of experience or related work experience is preferred. 

·         Additional 2 years’ experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.

 

Language Skills:

 

Ability to read and comprehend documents including but not limited to policy manuals, safety rules/programs, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and simple correspondence. In addition, the ability to communicate information effectively one-on-one, in small group situations and settings is required.
