Job Description

The HSE Manager provides health and safety management across the BlueScope Construction business and manages the safety and risk associated with construction projects and operations.

The Manager proactively directs and implements company safety strategies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for employees, clients, subcontractors, and the public.

Primary duties include:

  • Drive health and safety strategy for BSC: Work in conjunction with Business President,BBNA HSE management and team, Central Safety Committee, and BSC management team
  • Provide expert advice on the health and safety function: with the HSE team, ensure adequate specialty and technical advice is available to the BSC Business as required. 
  • Drive continuous improvement of health and safety culture across BSC: assist in the development and implementation of leadership and engagement initiatives to deliver improved health and safety leadership, engagement, and ultimately improved health and safety performance across the business. 
  • Ensure compliance to legislative and corporate requirements: lead the development and implementation of HSE policies, procedures, performance standards, management systems and guidelines ensuring compliance as required by legislation and corporate headquarters. 
  • Perform and oversee investigations: Proactively investigate incidents, accidents, injuries and unsafe working conditions to include interfacing with workers compensation claims, communication with injured workers, and return to work strategies. 
  • Oversee field safety audit program: Conduct periodic jobsite safety inspections in accordance with the company’s due diligence program.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Associate’s degree or 2 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 5 years of safety experience in the commercial construction industry.
  • Demonstrated experience building an effective HSE program
  • Demonstrated success improving health and safety principles including safety leadership and engagement

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Technical knowledge in OSHA, ANSI, NFPA
  • Workers Compensation regulations
