Job Description

The role of the Tax Department is to provide expert counsel to Senior Management and the North American businesses (BBNA, Steelscape/ASC JV, NorthStar BlueScope Steel) in all tax matters, as well as comply with regulatory issues and filings.  This includes, but is not limited to: M&A activities, compliance, tax accounting, audit management, and tax planning.

The senior tax analyst contributes by preparing state tax returns, workpapers and quarterly estimates, provides general leadership and oversight and lead review of state tax compliance, assists with internal and external tax audits and contributes to tax savings through participating in value-add projects.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Preparing state tax returns, workpapers and quarterly estimates, advising on Company nexus
  • Calculating state and local tax estimated payments on a quarterly basis
  • Leading state tax planning projects including research as needed
  • Handling tax authority inquiries and responding to notices
  • Assist with internal and external audits

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • At least 3-5 years tax experience with broad exposure to general tax compliance preparation applications
  • Familiar with Microsoft applications

Preferred Education & Experience Qualifications

  • Big 4 accounting experience
  • CPA certified or eligible
  • Experience with Onesource and/or BNA software

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and start/stop projects on a regular basis
  • Ability to build and develop positive peer relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
