Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Department Team Lead is responsible to perform all the Role Summary tasks and Key Responsibilities of a Utility Operator.  In addition, a Department Team Lead is responsible for administration duties and is considered the primary contact for work coordination on the shift they are assigned.  Department Team Lead is accountable for the training of all new hires in the department.  The administrative and coordination duties for a Department Team Lead typically represent approximately 20% of their time, the balance would be those of a Utility Operator. 

  • Serve as primary contact for work coordination in department and perform administration duties as assigned by Production Leader and/or Manufacturing Process Manager.
  • Communicate and Coordinate with Production Leader on a weekly basis to satisfy Department metrics, production requirements.
  • Lead daily Toolbox talks and trainings.
  • Train new employees on all duties and tasks required of a Machine Operator/Package/General Laborer/Material Handler as applicable.
  • Interact with Production leaders and Manufacturing Production managers to ensure prioritization and timely completion of orders.
  • Download or generate computer programs to direct machine for proper operation and specification for job as needed.  Observe machine during operation to monitor quality of finished product and/or material issues, adjusting machine as necessary
  • Set up and operate machines with proper tooling and consumables for current job needs
  • Maintain material reporting and plan best material usage to maximize finished products with least amount of raw material used.
  • Use lifting devices and mobile equipment to place materials/parts where needed
  • Use appropriate measuring tools, processes, and systems to perform First Piece Inspection and other quality checks before, during and after production to confirm material and/or product meets specifications
  • Actively participates in continuous improvement and corrective action activities 
  • Perform housekeeping, 5-S, and other duties as assigned



  • High School diploma or equivalent, or attain ACT WorkKeys Assessment at certified job profile skill level
  • 1 year of experience independently operating computer-controlled machine operation


  • Certificate from technical school or 6 additional months of relevant experience and/or training in computerized numerically controlled (CNC) machine operations
  • 2 year of experience in computer-controlled machine operation.
  • 6 months proven Leadership experience.
