Job Description

Assist in minimizing the carrying costs for accounts receivable by improving cash flow and maintaining a Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) consistent or better than industry standard for the region(s) assigned.

Assist Credit Managers in minimizing Bad Debt losses when approving projects by evaluating the level of risk in relationship to the potential return.

The financial/credit relationship to customers is a crucial element in both keeping projects on the production schedule and managing the accounts receivable portfolio.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist Credit Managers for your region(s) (as assigned) in evaluating collection risk on every project sold to support the credit decision on each project, regardless of amount.  Establishing terms for each project includes a) keeping abreast of lien rights in all states, b) determine the need for secondary security or other coverage such as contractor payment bonds, letters of credit, cross corporate guarantee, insurance or advanced payment, c) analyze current customer exposure in production and AR, d) Assist with communicating requirements with customers on each project as well as PM’s and Sales Team as needed.
  • Daily interaction with customers, project managers and/or sales managers regarding disputes, collections and claims.
  • Assist Credit Manager with filing mechanic’s liens and/or bond claims as assigned. Monitor dates to analyze and track lien rights, file notices, perform research, and process lien waivers as needed for assigned regions.
  • Monitor and perform customer AR balance maintenance for regions assigned (i.e. Project Reconciliations, write offs, application/refund of credit memos, commitments and advanced payments, etc.)
  • Maintain Customer Master file or provide backup in maintaining Customer Master file, including new customers, updates, direct sale relationships, etc. for all company divisions as needed.
  • Assist with analysis of financials of builder recruits to aid in establishing an initial credit guideline and ongoing review of annual customer financials, as assigned by Credit Manager.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related area
  • 1 year construction credit experience
  • 3 years finance or collections experience

Preferred Education & Experience Qualifications

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in the building and construction industry including an understanding of the Mechanics Lien, Joint Payment Agreements, Construction Payment and Performance Bonds, and Letters of Credit (Standby & Documentary)
  • 3+ years construction credit experience
