Job Description

General Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for creating production schedules that allow efficient time for orders to be produced, meeting all ship dates and maintaining work-load balance throughout all shifts. The Production Planner is accountable for managing the customer orders after they are received and processed by customer service. The prime focus of this role is to effectively allocate customer orders to a manufacturing process within the offered capability of the process to successfully achieve the on-time delivery of the customer order.

  • Maintain accurate production planning to meet site capacity, including modifying and adapting production scheduling, issuing run lists, production related paperwork, and issuing order amendments to accommodate revisions, cancellations or priorities.
  • Manage communication between manufacturing, planning, supply chain, and customer service to maintain backlog upstream and downstream material flow.

  • Develop a Production Scheduling process so that the efficient utilizations of machine capacities are achieved.  Work directly with the manufacturing and buyer/planner to achieve timely production for all customer orders.

  • Prepare future forecasting for production schedules to optimize efficiency and throughput, and easily adjust to changes (backlogs, operational changes, unplanned events, etc.).

  • Upon review of sales orders; establishes production schedules for multiple pieces of equipment related to the manufacturing process.

  • Ensures proper daily and weekly allocation to production equipment based on throughput capacity for efficient utilization of equipment.

  • Ensures that shift capacities are reviewed hourly for all manufacturing processes and actively closes as capacities are exceeded.

  • Support operations team with review of production recording and allocation issues in SAP.

  • Participate in stock takes and cycle counting as required.

  • Schedule, participate and maintain coil cycle count processing to ensure coil inventory accuracy throughout the year.

  • Monitors costs within area of responsibility and developed plans in consultation with manufacturing manager to manage these costs. Key focus on process scrap, errors, overtime, manning utilization daily. 

  • Backs up the processing of Coil Claims within SAP and coordinate with vendor.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Experience & Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.

  • 2 years of experience Production Planning in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated experience communicating across departments and taking initiative to production challenges.

  • Experience with ERP system.  SAP strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

  • 4 years of experience Production Planning in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Experience in construction environment.

  • Knowledge of ASC Steel Deck Production.

  • Experience in supply chain role.

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands of this position are limited to those found in a normal warehouse/production environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand, walk, lift, carry, use the hands to manipulate objects, bend, look and see. 
  • The employee is frequently required to push, pull, twist, turn, talk, hear, reach above the shoulder and/or outward, and drive power equipment.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, squat, type, kneel, and crouch. 
  • The employee must routinely lift up to 50 pounds. 

Work Environment

  • The physical demands of this position are limited to those found in a normal warehouse/production environment.

  • Work may be sedentary, or desk bound.

  • Some work may be repetitive, which may include repetitive physical motion.

  • Use of hands and fingers required to pinch, pick, and feel objects, tools and/or controls.

  • Work requires continuous mental attention and high alertness.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergo and pass a physical examination and drug screening
