Job Description

The Detail Shear Operator (Machine Operator 1) is responsible for manufacturing parts off the 10-foot shear, marking for identification, staging and delivering detail parts to either dino carts for conrac, proper area for secondary work, or ship loose area.  Requires the use of judgment to plan and setup work according to and within the recognized standard methods, procedures and work instructions.  The assigned work will be directed by the department Production Leader.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Computer operation and basic keyboarding skills.
  • Proper machine and equipment setup and adjustment
  • Locate and obtain proper size material for production use.  Identify by use of a micrometer if necessary.
  • Shear parts and components for production use.
  • Verify part dimensions by use of the manufacturing fabrication reference manual or X-drawings.
  • Mark and identify sheared parts by part number, sequence number and quantity.
  • Stage or deliver properly marked parts to proper area.
  • Completed work must be highlighted, initialed and heat number identified on the 201 Form list or any other production list being used.
  • Mark all stock material to be used for production with proper size identification and heat number.
  • Perform required quality check and ensure all parts produced meets quality control standards.
  • Inspect and check parts using standard measuring equipment
  • Ensure production meets all quality assurance standards.
  • Read and understand work instructions, assignments, drawings and reference material.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic math.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form and solve practical problems.
  • Ability to use and read required measuring devices.
  • Overhead crane operation.
  • Jib crane operation.
  • Forklift operation
  • Plate straightener operation.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, as required, on assigned equipment.  Report necessary repairs or breakdowns to department PL and/or maintenance department.
  • Follow all safety and operating instructions.
  • Responsible for daily housekeeping in work area.
  • All other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent, or attain ACT WorkKeys Assessment at certified job profile skill level 

Preferred Education & Experience Qualifications

  • 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Basic computer skills
  • Mechanical -- knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
  • Production and Processing – knowledge of raw materials and production processes
  • Quality Control Analysis – able to conduct tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality 
  • Operation Monitoring – capable of watching gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
  • Mathematics ability
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Mobile Equipment Operation – may require ability to use overhead crane, hoist and/or forklift
