Forklift Operator / Team Member

  • Full-time

Job Description

BlueScope is an Australian-born global success story spanning 15 countries. Our team of over 16,500 people is our strength and we want our people to be safe, successful and well. We’re leaders and innovators in transforming steel into smart products and solutions that support society, today and in the future. We’re proud of brands, like COLORBOND ® steel that inspire and protect everything from hospitals to bridges and stadiums.

The Opportunity

Our Lysaght business is looking for a Forklift Operator to join the Production Team based in Townsville. Made in Australia since 1921, Lysaght manufactures and markets steel building products that have helped shape the nation: from iconic corrugated roofing over Australian homes, to large commercial and industrial projects.

Forklift Operators are at the heart of our operations, playing a key role in safely moving, staging and dispatching our steel building products. You’ll be hands-on across the yard and dispatch areas, using a forklift and RF scanning systems to pick, pack and consolidate customer orders, while prioritising safety for yourself and those around you. If you’re looking for secure work, paid training, a supportive team, and work-life balance, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

You’ll work on a rotating roster across day shift, with shorter Fridays built in, supporting a work-life balance:

  • Day shift: 6:00am – 2:00pm (Mon-Thu), 6:00am – 12:00pm (Fri)

What Will You Do?

As part of our supportive team, you’ll play a key role in getting customer orders out accurately and safely. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be on and off the forklift throughout the day, switching between forklift operation, pick packing, consolidation and general yard tasks to keep dispatch moving. Your day may include:

  • operating a forklift to load, unload, move and stage product for dispatch
  • pick packing orders using RF scanners and paperwork to ensure accuracy
  • consolidating orders: bringing multiple line items together (e.g., flashings, rainwater goods and accessories), checking quantities, and staging them ready for dispatch manual handling tasks including collecting, packing, strapping and securing orders to specification
  • planning and building safe truck loads for mixed, irregular-shaped products, using the available space efficiently while protecting product and ensuring loads are stable and transport-ready

More About You

You’ll thrive in this role if you enjoy being on and off the forklift, keeping orders moving, and taking pride in accuracy and safe loading. You’ll bring:

  • a current forklift licence (LF) and practical experience operating a forklift in a warehouse/yard environment
  • confidence using RF scanners and following pick/pack processes to meet customer requirements
  • commitment to safe work practices and manual handling procedures
  • load-planning skills and attention to detail when consolidating mixed/irregular product for transport
  • comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions (rain, heat and humidity)
  • the ability to complete a pre-employment medical (including drug and alcohol screening) and participate in random on-site testing to support a safe workplace

We’re committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace that reflects the community we serve. First Nations people and women are strongly encouraged to apply for this role.
