The Opportunity

Our Australian Steel Markets business is looking for a Market Development Manager – Renewable Energy in our Marketing and Market Development team. The role can be based in either Mascot, NSW or Mount Waverly, VIC.

As society shifts towards a low carbon economy, steel is a crucial material in the technologies for this transition. We have the largest steel production facility in Australia, and you'd be at the forefront of strengthening domestic manufacturing and supply chain capabilities to help build Australia’s renewable infrastructure for the future.

Your direct Leader has grown through various parts of our business and is dedicated to supporting your development within BlueScope. The breadth of exposure you will have in this role across organisational boundaries will open various career pathways to choose from.

The role involves occasional interstate travel to attend key meetings and major industry events within the renewable energy sector.

You’ll have the flexibility to structure your week around business priorities, spending 1-2 days per week working from home and the remainder of the week meeting with customers and stakeholders in person. We offer flexible start and finish times to support work-life balance and personal commitments.

What Will You Do?

Today, you’ll guide us on how best to navigate and influence this evolving landscape. With a lens on tomorrow, get creative as you develop strategies and business proposals you’ll have the opportunity to execute – and be recognised for the results!

  • capture market insights: provide advice on market conditions, market growth strategies, regulatory environments, and potential partnerships – both domestically and overseas, with a focus on emerging opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
  • share sector insights: engage with various internal teams to present insights and intelligence that underpin investment and direction, enabling delivery of the sector plan and supporting our advocacy for Australian manufacturing.
  • strategy development and execution: participate in ongoing strategy refreshes, develop new strategies, create business cases for strategic projects to address opportunities and risks, and monitor progress against strategic objectives.
  • review and reset the sector plan: refresh and adapt strategies annually or as needed to respond to changing market conditions, government policy, and industry trends.
  • build and manage industry relationships: develop and execute stakeholder engagement plans across customers, government (state and federal), industry, nurturing new and existing relationships.
  • project management and delivery: lead and track strategic business projects in this sector, including mobilising others to contribute to the delivery of these, and act as a conduit between external stakeholders and internal sales teams.

  • demonstrated ability to understand complex markets and supply chains across different industries
  • significant strategy development experience
  • experience engaging with industry and government on key business and policy areas
  • an inquisitive nature to explore our business and ‘connect the dots’ with your own knowledge
  • a desire to bring new and different ideas – viewing our today and being curious about what we need for the future
