The Opportunity
Come and discover the opportunity to join our Coke and Ironmaking team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing department as a Control System Engineer. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
In this technically inclined role, you’ll provide Process control systems, Industrial network, OT, and Data management engineering solutions, while offering your technical expertise to support the plant across our Coke and Iron department which includes 3x Coke Oven Batteries and Coke Oven Gas Processing plant.

What Will You Do?
Working in a supportive environment, you’ll contribute to the safety of our people, the quality of our product and the reliability of our equipment, Your role will conduct various upgrades and maintenance to control systems on our plant, and progress other innovative solutions to enhance and maintain a high safety and operational standard. In addition, you will:
- ensure safety standards are never compromised, making suitable changes when risks and opportunities are identified
- provide quality, simple & cost-effective engineering solutions that meet process functional requirements and/or operating plant life
- provide the department with specialist expertise in DCS systems, communication data flow, protocols, and network configuration
- drive & manage assigned capital work from conception through to completion while adhering to the capital work processes and systems
- ensure customer expectations are achieved by liaising with external suppliers and industry experts on technical issues and collaborating with technical teams and product owners on new and innovative solutions
More About You
Along with your technical skills, you will have experience in applying your analytical skills to address process performance. You will also bring:
- tertiary degree qualifications in Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Science engineering or a similar relevant qualification
- Experience with modifying and implementing ABB process control platforms.
- an understanding of Wireless HART communications
- experience with loop tuning
- experience with OPC
- familiar with other communication protocols such as Modbus and SNMP.
- a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of yourself and others
- developed communication and influencing skills - building constructive and effective relationships
- the ability to prioritise work and troubleshoot and resolve problems effectively and efficiently with a hands-on approach
