The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to lead our Coke and Iron Engineering team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as the Engineering Manager. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

Having such a diverse range of equipment, not to mention some of the largest you’ll find, we’ve got a lot of projects happening in our Coke and Iron department! Enjoy the variety as you work across all our operational areas to lead an engaged team delivering a significant annual portfolio of capital projects.

This is an incredible opportunity to leverage your engineering expertise whilst you develop and mentor a team of approximately 30 engineering professionals across 4 discipline teams. We believe success in this role can support further career progression at BlueScope.

Working Monday to Friday, day shift role, enjoy a competitive salary, 14% superannuation option and annual profit share plan (bonus). What Will You Do?

Drawing on your operational plant knowledge while driving a safety first workplace, you will:

  • manage and deliver a significant annual capital project portfolio of various projects
  • uphold and improve engineering governance of the team
  • support, coach and motivate your team to achieve optimal engagement, capability and performance levels
  • deliver prioritised engineering support for the day-to-day operations of the plant
  • provide design engineering guidance to help minimize business risks associated with the application of technology in manufacturing improvement projects
  • provide project engineering and project management guidance, assisting the delivery of various projects in a cost-effective and timely manner
  • provide workload resource planning, by scheduling and resourcing for current and projected work and projects
  • actively participate in the rollout of departmental and business safety initiatives

More About You

Supported by your engineering qualification (e.g. Mechanical, Structural / Civil or Electrical), you’ve had extensive experience applying your expertise in a heavy industrial environment.

With a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of others, you will bring:

  • experience in the management of large annual project portfolios
  • demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop a team
  • understanding of engineering principles, design methodology and calculation practices
  • well-practiced in design management systems that consider design risk and delivery of solutions through an escalating chain of approval and hierarchy of controls
  • proficient in utilising engineering design tools and software, including the interpretation and evaluation of modelling and analysis software packages.
