Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to become part of the Springhill Engineering team at Port Kembla Steelworks. Being one of the largest manufacturing facilities in Australia, this position will report to the Springhill Engineering Manager for execution of projects and operations support.

As an Electrical Engineer you will perform electrical design, estimating, generate enquiry and tender specifications, generate technical and installation specifications, support electrical installation activities, commissioning activities, fault-finding activities; and provide advice to help to manage projects and improve the steel-processing and manufacturing capability of BlueScope. You will work as a part of multidisciplinary team based at Springhill Works to install significant equipment and introduce strategies for process improvement.

The steelworks depend on a broad range of electrical engineering skills and knowledge, including:

  • power systems;
  • automation and control systems;
  • instruments and gauges;
  • project and shutdown management;
  • construction and commissioning; and
  • problem-solving and reliability improvement.

Who are we looking for?

  • a degree qualification in electrical engineering;
  • experience with Automation systems, PLC, HMI, DCS & SCADA;
  • experience with low voltage (415Vac) distribution systems and motor control; and
  • strong technical and analytical capability, problem solving and trouble shooting skills.

Experience with variable speed drives and closed-loop control systems will be highly regarded.

You will also have experience in workplace health and safety and quality management systems. A track record of facilitating engineering design, tender, supply, construction and commissioning is desirable.
