We are continuing our innovation journey and are currently looking for an experienced Corrosion Scientist to join our Product Innovation & Technology team based in Port Kembla.

This is an exciting role that will be involved in strategic work such as breakthroughs in metallic coating product development.

In this role, you will lead the design, commissioning and operation of a corrosion performance evaluation program for metallic coating developments.  This will see you develop electrochemical and accelerated corrosion testing protocols, conduct testing and materials characterisation and interpret results to support decision making.

With a focus on safety and quality, you will ensure work is carried out and complies with relevant business procedures and policies as well as meets all legislative and regulatory requirements.

You will work collaboratively with an expert and creative team of metallurgists and scientists to develop and execute innovative projects to support BlueScope’s business strategy. 

Who are we looking for?

Supported by a PhD in Materials Science and/or Engineering you will have demonstrated expertise in corrosion evaluation and materials characterisation relating to metallic materials, particularly in the context of metallic coatings for sheet steel. Experience in aluminium, zinc, and/or magnesium alloy development will be highly advantageous. 

You will also  a proven ability to professionally communicate results in scientific formats such as technical reports, literary publications, conference papers and presentations.

Leading your area of expertise within this team, it is important you can work collaboratively with, and at times lead, colleagues to critically evaluate and advise the business regarding highly strategic product and innovation initiatives.
