We have an exciting, newly created opportunity for a Mechanical Reliability Engineer to join our HCPD department. HCPD (hot coil processing and despatch) operations at Port Kembla is a key asset in the Hot Mills business. More specifically, HCPD manufactures and despatches a range products including Hot Rolled Coil, TRU-SPEC® Steel, EMBAR™ Steel and Hot Rolled Slit Strip, largely for the domestic market. 

As the Mechanical Reliability Engineer, you will deliver asset utilisation and maintenance management outcomes across the plant, undertake root cause analysis and problem solve within a variety of challenging manufacturing scenarios.  You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team across the department, whilst demonstrating your maintenance techniques and planning strategies for process improvement.

Key Responsibilities & tasks:

  • Deliver continuous improvement to safety and operations in line with the department’s WHS and Business plans;
  • Develop expertise to provide technical direction to maintain plant and equipment;
  • Be a part of significant projects, down days, and shutdowns;
  • Assist the Manager by providing leadership support, including; defining role requirements, performance management and employee development; and
  • Ensure alignment of maintenance activities to support the business including strategic development, budget management and effective and compliant maintenance documentation.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced engineer, who has the following skills and experience:

  • Minimum tertiary qualifications in a Mechanical Engineering degree;
  • Extensive experience in planning, organization and management principles of maintenance within a heavy plant environment;
  • Experience in problem solving /root cause analysis and reliability improvement;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a work team and build relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated ability to input to strategy development and plan & execute maintenance tasks; and
  • Understanding of current maintenance practices and Manufacturing Excellence model.
