Our Manufacturing business in Port Kembla has an opportunity for several energetic, highly motivated, results-oriented Mechanical Engineering students to join our team. With a combination of part-time study and part-time work, you will be provided one day per week to attend classes. You will be available to commence with BlueScope in January 2021.

Our Mechanical Engineering Cadetship with real-world experience can open the door to many exciting career opportunities, from pure engineering to people management.

You will rotate through various departments so that you gain a good appreciation of the steel making process from smelting the ore to conversion to liquid iron and steel and then forming the raw steel into a finished product—fit for use across Australia.

You will learn the basics of fitting, machining, shaping and joining of metals. The skills that you practise will provide a solid foundation towards understanding the engineering profession and furthering your career.

Who are we looking for?

As an excellent communicator and team player, you will have strong organisational skills the ability to balance university and your varied work tasks. You will see the value in gaining practical, hands-on experience in the workplace whilst undertaking your theoretical training.

You should also meet the following criteria:

• You will currently be in your second year of study in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wollongong (UOW) or be willing to transfer to UOW for the year commencing 2021; and
• Current first-year students may also be considered.
