We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Coil Coating Development Specialist to lead the development of the next generation of COLORBOND® steel across product design and process capability.

This new position, based at the Innovation Laboratories in Port Kembla, Wollongong NSW, will be a key part of our organisation, as you will be required to advance the development of our portfolio of painted products and influence the future of COLORBOND® steel.

You will have a sound understanding of quality issues associated with coil coating processes and the performance requirements of the product. You will design production line trials to verify laboratory findings as well as develop laboratory evaluation methods to predict future product performance.

In addition, you will be required to

  • Advance the development of painted products including investigation of pretreatment systems and polymer coating systems within a laboratory environment;
  • Develop product specifications and process conditions to support commercialization using knowledge and understanding of operational constraints, polymer chemistry and paint formulation parameters.;
  • Support and recommend to the product development team, product performance predictions based on testing results, polymer chemistry and the paint formulation; and
  • Liaise with suppliers, procurement, marketing, operations and technical functions.

Who are we looking for?

You will have Tertiary degree qualifications in Science, Engineering or related discipline.

You will have a strong technical skillset gained from laboratory and/or experience, with a sound knowledge of polymer chemistry, paint formulation parameters and coil coating processes. You will also have Laboratory experience in pretreatment and paint application methods

You will have excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to learn new techniques and processes.

Your experience working with accelerated and outdoor exposure equipment will be beneficial to your success in this role. Operational experience gained from a coil coating environment, as well as an understanding of paint system failure modes, mechanisms and reasons will be looked upon favourably.

You will be joining a well-established team of professionals, based in the Innovation Laboratories at the Port Kembla site in Wollongong NSW. This is a Monday to Friday, day shift position. Travel is required of this role, with approximately 3-4 trips per year, domestic and international.
