Job Description

1) Implements the organization's environmental, safety, and health programs and procedures to ensure that the work environment is safe, healthy, and incident-free, that surrounding communities are safeguarded, and that facilities comply with regulations.

2) To develop, implement and promote occupational safety and health programs in the workplace.

3) To advise and assist the employer in complying with the provisions of the Standards, especially in the submission of the reporting requirements.

4) To perform at least a quarterly appraisal/assessment of the implementation of occupational safety and health programs in the workplace

5) To prepare an annual report of safety and health programs of establishments.

6) To be present during the scheduled safety inspections by authorized government agents and as requested during regular health and safety committee meetings.

7) The principal function of the Safety Officer is to act as the employers’ principal assistant and consultant in the application of programs to remove the hazards from the workplace and to correct unsafe work practices.

8) Serves as Secretary to the Health and Safety Committee. As such, he shall: prepare minutes of meetings; report status of recommendations made; notify members of the meetings; and

9) Submit to the employer a report of the activities of the committee, including recommendations made.

10) Conducts investigation of accidents as a member of the Health and Safety Committee and submits his separate report and analysis of accidents to the employer.

11) Coordinates all health and safety training programs for the employees and employer.

12) Conducts health and safety inspections as a member of the committee.

13) Maintains or helps in the maintenance of an efficient accident record system and coordinates actions taken by supervisors to eliminate accident causes.

14) Provides assistance to government agencies in the conduct of safety and health inspection, accident investigation or any other related programs.

Qualifications

Education: Preferably a licensed Engineer of appropriate discipline; or a graduate of any four (4) year course.

Years of Related Work Experience: With at least three (3) years experience in manufacturing firm with background on occupational health and safety management.

Job Skills/Competencies Required:

Ø Must have completed the 40-hour Basic Occupational Safety and Health Training Course

Ø Another forty-eight (48) hours of advanced/specialized occupational safety training course relevant to the industry.

Ø Must be responsible, hardworking, honest and trustworthy.

Ø Must be pro-active, flexible, aggressive and dynamic; Good oral and written communication skill must have; Must be computer Literate.
