Commercial Head, Switzerland

About the role

The Commercial Head owns commercial strategy and execution for the Swiss affiliate, reports to the General Manager and represents Commercial in the cross-functional Swiss Leadership Team. Key responsibilities are

  • Drive business results by achieving or exceeding revenue targets for marketed products and by preparing new product launches in the Swiss market.
  • Pursue business opportunities with an entrepreneurial mindset, ensuring that resources are being allocated to the most compelling opportunities. Responsibly manage P&L.
  • Design and continuously re-assess commercial strategy, implement commercial initiatives focusing on optimal impact. Orchestrate cross-functional strategic alignment.
  • Lead a diverse team of marketing and sales professionals. Drive further development of Commercial capabilities and support individual employees’ growth.
  • Shape go-to-market model and continuously reassess optimal organizational setup in line with business imperatives

What You’ll Do

  • Commercial Ownership
    • Develop the business and drive results:
      • Vigorously pursue business opportunities. 
      • Responsible for achieving agreed business objectives and financial targets.
      • Generates robust forecasts and meaningful scenarios to inform overall investment strategy and resource allocation.
      • Manage P&L with an entrepreneurial mindset.
      • Own commercial investment mix and shape strategy for optimal return.
    • Provide strategic clarity:
      • Drive annual strategic processes and clearly articulate strategic imperatives based on thorough business analysis.
      • Identifiy strategic questions to inform insights generation activities.
    • Orchestrate strategic alignment:
      • Continuously liaise with cross-functional partners to ensure integrated planning and complementing execution, with clear roles and responsibilities.
      • Accountable to drive strategic decision making in affiliate governance forums.
    • Strive for impact & learning:
      • Design KPIs and measurements to assess effectiveness of commercial activities.
      • Refine and adapt as part of a continuous learning cycle.
    • Foster meaningful exchange across the organization:
      • Represent affiliate needs in global and regional forums and provide relevant information and customer perspective to inform strategic decision making.
      • Act as ambassador: Buildsstrong relationships with key customers and external partners to ensure thorough understanding of customer needs and adequate representation of Biogen towards key experts and institutions.

    • Create a culture of commercial excellence and innovation:
      • Drive the implementation of commercial programs with an undivided focus on achieving high impact and results.
      • Empower team members to design and implement tactical plans and innovative solutions, according to the specific situations of the brand lifecycle.

      • Constantly assess capability build for various and evolving approaches.

      • Consistently demonstrate oversight of commercial activities and ensure adherence to applicable laws, standards, SOPs and work instructions.
      • Help employees understand the importance of adhering to the highest standards, support the implementation of the compliance program and framework, and hold employees accountable.
    • Foster team spirit and enhance effective collaboration within the Commercial organization and across functions.
  • Quality, Safety Risk-Management, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Operations:
    • As part of the affiliate leadership team, the Commercial Head
      • Participate in the design, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of an effective pharmaceutical quality system.
      • Demonstrate strong and visible support for the pharmaceutical processes and ensure implementation throughout their organization.
      • Ensures a timely and effective communication and escalation process exists to raise quality and safety issues to the appropriate levels of management.
      • Advocate continuous improvement to Biogen’s processes.

Qualifications

  • University Degree required- preferably in economics, business, medicine, or a life science related discipline
  • Substantial professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry (min. 10 years)
  • Profound commercial experience, preferably in local affiliate environment. Regional/global level is a plus.
  • Strong track record of delivering results while enhancing collaborative culture and high employee engagement.
  • Excellent understanding of the pharmaceutical ecosystem including the competitive, government, payor and regulator environment.
  • Proven strategic aptitude and ability
  • Experienced in leading in a matrix organization
  • Proficiency in German or French and English
