About This Role

The Associate Director, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) plays a crucial role in overseeing the organization’s overall risk management profile.  Leveraging your in- depth biotech/pharmaceutical expertise, you will identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor risks that could impact Biogen’s strategic objectives, operations, finances and reputation. This position involves fostering a risk-aware culture, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and developing strategies to enhance the company's risk resilience.

The Associate Director, Enterprise Risk Management ensures robust risk management practices are implemented and monitored across the full organization, including R&D, Commercialization and Corporate Functions. By providing data-driven insights and collaborating with various stakeholders, this role contributes to the organization's ability to make informed decisions, protect its assets, and maintain regulatory compliance in a dynamic industry.

What You’ll Do

Risk Assessment and Analysis:

  • Mature processes to identify and assess potential risks across all areas of Biogen, including financial, operational, strategic, compliance and reputational risks. 
  • Collaborate with business units to gather insights necessary for risk assessment, scenario analyses.
  • Enable a consistent approach to evaluate the potential impact and likelihood of risks materializing including facilitation to generate risk registers.

Risk Mitigation Strategies:

  • Utilize quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze risk factors and model potential scenarios.
  • Collaborate with business units to identify risk controls and assess control effectiveness.
  • Support the business to identify innovative recommendations to mitigate or reduce risk exposure.

Risk Governance and Reporting:

  • Maintain enterprise risk governance principles, policies, procedures aligned with industry standards and best practices.
  • Prepare comprehensive risk reports and dashboards for senior management and the board of directors.
  • Facilitate risk discussions and communicate complex risk information in a clear and actionable manner.

Risk Mitigation and Strategy Development:

  • Work closely with business units to develop and implement risk mitigation plans and strategies.
  • Assist in the development of risk appetite and tolerance levels for the organization.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor and stay current with industry regulations and standards related to risk management.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of regulatory compliance strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal audit, compliance to support risk related audits and assessments.

Business Continuity and Crisis Management:

  • Align business continuity and crisis management activities within the Enterprise Risk Management framework.
  • Participate in the development and testing of business continuity and crisis management plans.
  • Contribute to the organization's readiness for unforeseen events.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate and engage with internal stakeholders including finance, legal, operations, and compliance, to foster a risk-aware culture and mature risk-management processes.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in risk management, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in risk management, with 3+ years in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical industry regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing risk management frameworks and policies.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and assess complex risks.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and tools.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software and risk management tools.

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced degrees and relevant certifications (e.g., CRM, FRM) are advantageous.
