Job Description

The Medical Account Director role is a part of US Medical, a strategic partner within Biogen, that helps inform medical access and care across our therapeutic areas and pipeline to improve meaningful patient outcomes. The Medical Account Director combines scientific expertise with knowledge of US managed care organizations, health care policy as well as health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) to support scientific strategy and business objectives with US healthcare systems and payer related organizations.

What You Will Do 

  • Communicate and disseminate scientific and health economics/ outcome information to national and regional health systems and other payer audiences, including pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), specialty pharmacy providers (SPPs) and accountable care organizations (ACOs) by leveraging scientific expertise, work experience, and knowledge of managed care to achieve desired access goals. 
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with identified payer opinion leaders, formulary decision makers in practice and/or academia to discuss therapeutic areas important at Biogen. 
  • As a medical and scientific resource, build strong relationships to understand customer needs, and facilitate generation of real-world evidence (RWE) consistent with approved therapeutic area research plans.  
  • Collaborate with cross-functional field-based and home office-based medical and commercial colleagues to meet customer needs with the highest levels of quality and customer-focused support. 
  • Be highly accountable to qualitative and quantitative medical excellence performance goals, standards and measurements. Deliver against engagement plans for key decision makers that add high value to customers by managing and deploying resources in collaboration with field and non-field colleagues.  
  • Capture and report medical insights using CRM with the highest level of consistency and accuracy to help inform the medical and clinical strategies.

You have solid knowledge and expertise in health systems delivery and payers of patient care.  You have a marked curiosity about healthcare and business opportunities.  You keep patients, payers and physicians top of mind in your daily work and collaborate to solve critical scientific and business challenges.  

Qualifications

Required Skills 

  • 10 years of experience in industry with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a Managed Care/PBM, VA/DoD, CMS, State Medicaid, health care consulting, pharmaceutical industry or related environment with a managed market/outcome focus.  
  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree (preferred Pharm.D., Ph.D., MD).   
  • Excellent communication and formal presentation skills, organizational skills and ability to effectively manage several projects simultaneously. 
  • Able to work independently in field location (with 60% travel). 
  • Must be 18 years of age or older with valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record. Must have authorization and ability to drive a Company leased vehicle or rental.

Preferred Skills & Therapeutic Area Specific Skills 

  • HEOR fellowship or advanced certification. 
  • Completion of relevant clinical residency, fellowship or work experience may be considered. 
  • Experience in a field based Medical Affairs or Market Access role working with payers. 
  • Clinical experience and subject matter expertise in the neurology and/or immunology area is optimal.  
  • Account management experience in a commercial or clinical setting.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is $174,200k-$261,300k. Base salary  is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job related years of relevant experience, internal equity, and location of the job. Additionally, this role is eligible for participation in Biogen’s LTI grants and other incentive programs.
