About This Role 

The Director, HEOR Strategic Engagement leads the integration of Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) insights into Biogen’s US commercial access strategy. This individual will work in collaboration with US Medical/HEOR and Global Value & Access (V&A) to develop HEOR-related strategy and tactics to support engagement of US payers by the US account management team, including alignment across commercial and medical teams.

This individual will support the entire Biogen portfolio (MS, SMA, neuropsychiatry, and pipeline) in the US Market Access & Reimbursement (MA&R) organization. 

What You’ll Do

•    Lead development of the US MA&R HEOR strategy to support commercial engagement of payers across all Biogen products
•    Work with the payer marketing & medical teams to develop HEOR components of the value narrative of Biogen products for payer engagement, with a focus on the communication of economic value and real-world clinical value of Biogen products
•    Collaborate with account directors and medical to engage payer customers in partnership activities, including but not limited to Real World Evidence (RWE)/HEOR research and development of value-based solutions
•    Support the contracting strategy team in the development of value-based contracting and other innovative contracting initiatives, including outcomes-based models
•    Collaborate with medical, global V&A and MA&R colleagues to identify & prioritize RWE and HEOR research activities (including patient registries, claims analyses, and economic modeling) to support market access objectives
•    Conceptualize and advance value-based care approaches and innovative payment solutions for potential collaboration with US payers, including both commercial and public payers such as Medicare and Medicaid
•    Train US Account Management teams on HEOR/RWE concepts
•    Work with V&A and Public Policy & Government Affairs (PPGA) to engage external think tanks, public policy organizations, patient groups, and other external groups to develop value-based care principles
•    Collaborate with V&A and medical in responding to external value assessments of Biogen products, including external stakeholder engagements (e.g., Institute for Clinical and Economic Review(ICER) and state Drug Utilization Review Boards(DURBs)

Qualifications

•    10+ years of relevant consulting, pharmaceutical, payer/health plan and/or health care experience
•    Bachelor’s degree; PharmD, MS, MPH, or MBA in related discipline preferred
•    Experience in a matrixed environment with a need to influence without authority
•    Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams
•    Experience interpreting HEOR/RWE research
•    Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively deliver presentations to all levels of the organization
•    Deep understanding of US payers and today’s US market access landscape 
•    Ability to think strategically and communicate recommendations to senior leadership
