About this role

The Lead Application Administrator provides technical oversight, develops technical solutions, ensures high-quality SDLC deliverables, leads system governance and project oversight for applications within the PO&T IT Quality and Lab Automation Systems portfolio. This Lead Application Administrator will follow Biogen Pharmaceutical Operations and Technology (PO&T) methodologies for systems and project governance, leverage tools & techniques to capture business and functional requirements, and use approved corporate documentation templates and systems for SDLC documentation. Role spans the Product Technical Development, Quality Control, and Quality Assurance globally with a primary focus on LabWare LIMS.

What you’ll do

Major Role Key Activities:

  • Leadership and ownership of application governance, development, technical testing, deployment, and system configuration in LabWare LIMS using LIMS Basic, programming principles, and supporting tools (Crystal Reports, databases administration, integration technology, etc.) to meet the business requirements. Track and deliver system maintenance tasks and periodic activities such as user reviews, backup/restore testing, incident/change documentation, infrastructure patching and disaster readiness testing as defined in the Biogen quality procedures.
  • Understand business function’s strategy and effectively translate strategy into opportunities and requirements for technology solutions. Prepare detailed specifications from which programs/templates will be written, designed, coded, tested and deployed. 
  • Manage or assist in necessary change control/regulatory IT documentation (living documents, SOP’s, Work instructions, KB articles, etc.) required to demonstrate appropriate compliance, in addition to driving mid to large scale projects, including scope, work breakdown schedules, risks, financials, dependencies, communication and delivery.
  • Coordinate with internal customers (Project Management Office/Business Analysis/Subject Matter Experts/Infrastructure/Middleware/Computer System Validation/ITQ) to ensure successful partnerships and effective communication to achieve software development/configuration objectives.
  • Ensure incidents are resolved in a timely manner to limit business impact with any corrective actions instituted to prevent future occurrences. Where incident involves shared technology, engage with peers to prevent additional impact beyond owned application scope and socialize any lessons learned so they may be applied collectively.
  • Develop relationships with vendors and manage team of internal and external 3rd party technical resources, as required, to support the lab systems operations and meet project/enhancement demands while complying with the Biogen SDLC methodology to ensure the delivery of highly scalable and secure solutions that are optimized for performance.
  • Maintain the roadmap for owned lab systems and proactively socialize it with business functions and with other areas in the IT organization; executes on the approved lab systems roadmap and assess the health and operational performance of lab systems against established metrics.
  • Identify and realize opportunities to increase the value of the lab systems by exploiting unused capabilities, extending cost effective use and/or reducing platform costs through rationalization, consolidation, streamlining, and price negotiation.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

Minimum Experience Requirements:

  • 5 to 7+ years of experience working with life sciences systems such as LIMS, ELN, Empower CDS, OpenLab, Compliance Builder, Mettler LabX and supporting technologies e.g. Crystal Reports, SQL/Oracle Databases, etc. 
  • Minimum of 4 years of LabWare LIMS application management experience in a multisite environment.
  • System ownership experience in a GxP [Good Clinical, Laboratory, or Manufacturing Practices (GCP/GLP/GMP)] organization within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
  • Systems validation experience, especially experience that leverages technology as part of the solution.
  • Experience working on projects in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.

Minimum Knowledge Requirements:

  • B.S. degree (in science, engineering or computer science/programming), with related business discipline experience.
  • Understands the technology offerings applicable to the business when assisting in the design of solutions.
  • Has knowledge of and utilizes software lifecycle methodologies, SLDC, Waterfall, Agile, etc.
