About This Role
The Head of Global Payroll provides leadership, direction, prioritization, and execution for global payroll processes managed in Cambridge, MA, Warsaw, and Shanghai Global Business Services (GBS) locations.  This is a highly collaborative role providing leadership of Payroll related global processes, driving consistency of global business processes, and maximizing operational efficiency to optimize business impact. This person provides thought leadership, develops and translates strategy into operational goals and objectives, and ensures delivery of operations to set goals.  The Head of Global Payroll also identifies gaps and issues that prohibit efficient, effective, and compliant business processes, drives solutions for evolving business requirements, prioritizes process improvements and project prioritization, remedies process deficiencies and champions investments to optimize the process area - delivering high customer satisfaction and business impact. This role reports into the Head of Global People Services.

What You’ll Do
•    Plan, direct, and manage payroll teams in GBS in accordance with the organization’s strategic direction, while ensuring accurate and timely payroll for all employees (US, Canada, LATAM, EMEA and APAC)  
•    Lead payroll transitions to move activities from local affiliates to GBS for remaining EU and APAC countries and continue efforts to consolidate payroll providers across EU and APAC regions
•    Drive payroll automation and digitization in processes globally. Maximize the effectiveness of technologies and supporting processes to drive continuous improvement
•    Create a high-performance, customer-centric culture throughout the organization, informed by input from key stakeholders and customers
•    Manage team's performance and commitments to goals and objectives and measures results to improve transactional efficiencies to achieve agreed service level agreement and key performance indicators
•    Support and partner closely with Human Resources, Benefits, external services providers, Finance, Tax, and Legal to administer employee programs per design specifications
•    Manage Business Partner/Stakeholder relationship including driving quarterly operational reviews with business partner(s) to review performance of service delivery against established SLAs
•    Manage budgets and relationships with payroll providers, monitoring SLAs and performance and providing feedback on areas for improvement
•    Ensure systems and controls are set up accurately within various payroll systems to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines
•    Manage global projects to improve policies, processes, and technology platforms, fostering a continuous improvement culture
 

Qualifications

Who You Are
You have a track record of being a collaborative and authentic payroll leader who can articulate a vision, set direction, and motivate others to achieve outstanding results. You bring a strong strategic focus along with analytical skills and project execution capability that has been acquired and developed in a complex, international environment. You have a continuous improvement mindset and strong orientation to processes in a pragmatic way to achieve business results. 

•    12-15 years of end-to-end payroll processing experience in a multi-country payroll environment with a strong understanding of best practices around controls, regulations, tax compliance, and working with outsourced providers
•    Minimum of 10+ years of managerial experience in an HR service center/call center operations or GBS environment including, service delivery, process optimization, and service infrastructure
•    Experience with Workday, UltiPro, ADP Celergo and other comparable global payroll systems
•    Experience leading global payroll transformation projects
•    Expertise in all aspects of Time Keeping, Time Tracking and Time Systems
•    Proven ability to establish a vision and gain alignment across the organization, with exceptional impacting and influencing skills for engaging key stakeholders, both internally and externally
•    Ability to work cross-functionally to engage/influence others to ensure the most effective solutions are chosen and implemented, while blending diverse ideas, opinions, and perspectives
•    Business acumen (analytical and problem-solving skills), with the ability to analyze the business and project needs to determine resources necessary to meet objectives
•    Ability to manage cross culturally. Ability to manage conflict and pressure by effectively facilitating healthy interaction, discourse and decision making that builds consensus and alignment
•    Must demonstrate a passion for, and proven success in, driving continuous process improvement. Lean and Six Sigma training and/or certification is a decided plus
•    Creates the environment that inspires and enables people to collaborate and move the organization forward
•    High level of self-initiative with a strong sense of urgency, accountability, resiliency, persistence, and tenacity
•    Willingness to travel internationally (5%)

Education 
•    Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance or related discipline 
 

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is $158,000 to $263,300. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job related years of relevant experience, internal equity, and location of the job. Additionally, this role is eligible for participation in Biogen’s LTI grants and other incentive programs.
