About this role
The Associate Director, Patient Advocacy Lead for depression will drive the development and implementation of the patient advocacy strategy in support of Biogen’s U.S. Neuropsychiatry franchise.
Working closely with Corporate Affairs as well as the business, this individual will be responsible for leading proactive external engagement with key patient advocacy groups (PAGs) and umbrella groups in collaboration with Biogen partners. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on a potential product launch bringing innovation to a community with high unmet medical needs. The candidate will be a key contributor to deepening relationships with priority external stakeholders and driving Biogen’s position in the depression and postpartum depression spaces.
You will be an integral member of the U.S. cross functional depression team as well as the global Brand team, providing strategic counsel and executing on patient advocacy engagement plans. They will continue to build and position Biogen as a partner of choice with the community through active engagement at community events, medical congresses, patient conferences, etc.
This position requires strong collaboration skills and ability to work across teams and competing priorities. As a member of the Core Global Patient Advocacy and External Communications team, this role will work cross-functionally with colleagues in global, regional and in the Biogen affiliates.
This role reports into the Senior Director, Patient Advocacy and External Communications.
What You’ll Do
- Drive patient advocacy strategy and insight generation
- Build, deepen and own relationships with key external partners
- Implement successful patient advocacy tactics to support overarching goals
- Identify and leverage opportunities to support business challenges
- Serve on the US Neuropsychiatry Leadership team; Serve on the Global Brand Team
- Work closely and effectively with compliance, legal and regulatory colleagues

Qualifications
- 8+ years of advocacy, community or clinical trial engagement experience within the biotech industry, healthcare, for a trade association, government, or NGO. In-depth understanding and experience of patient advocacy
- Ability to develop strong relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated creativity and innovation in strategy and execution; flexibility to find the right balance in working strategically and operationally
- Enjoys a fast-paced, often unpredictable environment
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a matrix team and with a wide array of internal and external stakeholders on complex issues
- Knowledge of U.S. patient access environment and healthcare systems
- Ability to work in both the Weston, MA. and Cambridge, MA office and travel up to 20% post Covid
Preferred:
- Advocacy experience in a launch and/or in mental health/depression
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required
