Job Description

This application is for a 6-month student role from August - December 2023. Resume review begins in February 2022. 

The co-op student will be a fully integrated member of the Medical Science and Content Team within Biogen Digital Health (BDH), a global unit of Biogen formed in March 2021.  We are a highly cross-functional team who works closely with the BDH Science and Solutions Teams as well as the Biogen Medical Affairs Teams at the global and local level.  BDH aspires to transform patients’ lives and Biogen by making personalized and digital medicine in neuroscience a reality. 

Position Description 

As a co-op, you will work with the BDH Medical Science and Content Team, in collaboration with key stakeholders (both internal and external), to support a number of medical affairs and medical science research and product support activities led by BDH with a focus on strategy and execution of medical engagement activities at 2023 scientific conferences and study planning and execution support.  You will also support scientific communications strategy for BDH programs, scientific communications deliverables, and medical training activities. In this position, you will gain an introduction to medical affairs, research and evidence generation and medical science support in the unique context of a digital health solutions in mental health.  Example projects may include: 

  • Activities associated with scientific congress presence including developing strategy & content, operations, communication & engagement planning 

  • Developing scientific communications materials (i.e. medical briefs, narratives, slide decks containing presented or published data) and supporting scientific abstract and poster submissions. 

  • Developing assets for display in the Biogen medical booth at scientific conferences 

  • Working with key stakeholders to support scientific evidence generation and study design, including literature review of suitable endpoints and study design and execution best practices in digital health. 

  • Supporting review and summary of medical science input into product roadmap considerations, which may include literature review on digital health solutions for mental health, feature and design preferences studies and data on adoption considerations in clinical populations. 

  • Supporting study startup and the execution of studies deploying a digital solution in the clinical psychiatry setting. 

  • Cross-functional collaboration with statisticians and data scientists to analyse and interpret data on the digital solution. 

Qualifications

  • Interest in a potential career in industry and a fast-paced work environment 

  • Aptitude for gathering, interpreting, and communicating complex, scientific information 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 

  • Background or strong interest in digital health, clinical neuroscience, psychiatry, behavioral medicine, human-computer interaction, or related fields.   

  • Talent in relationship-building and working collaboratively 

  • Experience in the conduct of human subject clinical research beneficial 

  • Experience in project management and execution skills beneficial 

  • Leadership and/or teaching experience beneficial but not required 

  • Data science literacy beneficial but not required. 

To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. 

At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date 

Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university 

Education 

Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or PhD in clinical psychology, behavioral medicine, neuroscience, potentially adjacent biology or life sciences, or related fields.  Experience in digital health, human-computer interaction/design, data science, computer science and related fields beneficial but not required.
