About This Role

The Medical Director - Neuromuscular (NMD) role is a part of US Medical, a strategic partner within Biogen, that helps inform medical practice across our therapeutic areas and pipeline to improve meaningful patient outcomes.  As a key member of the US NMD Medical Director office team reporting to the USM NMD Head, the Medical Director – NMD is the medically accountable lead for supporting the development and implementation of the US Medical Strategy for Biogen’s NMD (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Spinal Muscular Atrophy) therapeutic area commercialized products and related assets. What You’ll Do

  • Leads the long range planning, development and execution of the US medical strategy and tactics for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Spinal Muscular Atrophy and aligns with global strategy.
  • Responsible for TA portfolio budget.
  • Serve as the US Medical expert within NMD for collaborative research projects and provide medical oversight for commercial promotional materials.
  • Serve as the US Medical contact for key functions/stakeholders on the US affiliate level (e.g. Field Medical Teams (MSLs/MVLs), Commercial, Market Access, Legal/Compliance, Epidemiology, Pharmacovigilance), effectively interacting and collaborating at multiple levels. 
  • Develop the US-relevant data generation strategy and lead specific data generation projects to address identified medical/scientific data gaps in close collaboration and alignment with US NMD clinical experts, global Medical, Clinical Development, Real World Evidence Generation teams and R&D. 
  • Contribute to the development/adaptation of medical materials (e.g. presentations, trainings, medical briefs and talking points) for the US Medical team according to DSMR requirements and manage submission processes.
  • Present data at US Medical affairs events, including advisory boards and trainings as well as congresses & medical education events.  Build and nurture relationships with external stakeholders (including HCPs, healthcare institutions and advocacy groups) in NMD therapeutic landscape.
  • Create positive team climate in alignment with Biogen’s culture.  Ensure individuals within (specify asset team) are effectively assessed and coached with talent development plans in place that will be executed as appropriate.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • MD, PhD, PharmD or comparable advanced degree is required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience is required, preferably with prior experience in an in-house Medical Affairs role and/or Field Medical, AND/OR a combination of relevant clinical practice in the respective TA might be acceptable, depending on the program.
  • Relevant TA experience required in NMD
  • Strong working knowledge of US regulations as relevant to Medical Affairs

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with medical launch as well as products at different stages of the lifecycle
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and collaborate with global, regional and/or affiliate medical to ensure regional activities are executed in alignment with global medical strategy and ensuring the insights and needs from them are known and properly addressed
  • Ability to manage projects and take initiative to solve complex and challenging problems
  • Experience managing and developing a team of Medical Affairs professionals

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is $187,200 to $302,000. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job related years of relevant experience, internal equity, and location of the job. Additionally, this role is eligible for participation in Biogen’s LTI grants and other incentive programs.
