About this role

The Field Director, Medical Science Liaisons (FD) role is a part of US Medical, a strategic partner within Biogen, that helps inform medical practice across our therapeutic areas and pipeline to improve meaningful patient outcomes. The Field Director will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to ensure adaptation and execution of medical plans at a regional level.  Biogen’s priority is to continue to foster and enable a diverse and inclusive workforce – representing age, gender, sexual identity, race, ethnicity, Veterans, and people with disabilities – that reflects the communities where we operate and the patients who we serve.

What You Will Do

  • Actively manage and coach a team of MSLs by encouraging professional and personal development.  Provide leadership and direction to MSLs to achieve performance objectives.
  • Represent the US Medical team as the primary regional field liaison between the commercial and medical organizations and leads the ongoing evolution of the medical and commercial collaboration model. 
  • Take a customer-centric, metrics based and data-driven approach to setting measurable goals while ensuring MSLs execute successfully in alignment with the US medical strategy. 
  • Be fully accountable and responsible for the performance of your team as well as for instilling a positive climate within your team in alignment with Biogen's culture.

You are a self-starter, energetic leader, coach, and manager of a team of professionals. You have clinical training with work experience in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry. You keep patients, payers, and physicians top of mind in your daily work and collaborate to solve critical scientific and business challenges.

Qualifications

Required skills

  • 7+ years of Medical Affairs experience
  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree required; doctoral level preferred (e.g. MD, PhD, PharmD).
  • Minimum two years’ experience managing a team of field -based pharmaceutical/Biotechnology industry employees is required
  • Demonstrated leadership and management of effective teams
  • Excellent communication and formal presentation skills, organizational skills, and ability to effectively manage several projects simultaneously
  • Able to travel 60% of the time, including ability to travel overnight and occasionally on weekends
  • Must be 18 years of age or older with valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  • Must have authorization and ability to drive a company leased vehicle or rental

Preferred Skills & Therapeutic Area Specific Skills

  • Psychiatry experience highly preferred. 
  • Medical Affairs launch experience desired
  • This role will be field based within the continental US and willingness to accommodate work across time zones will be needed
