About This Role:

The level of responsibilities for this role requires broad-spectrum of experience in Automation, IT Networking Systems, and Instrumentation & Controls engineering.  Primarily providing hands-on support for sites Data Historian systems as well as supporting sites DCS (Distributed Control Systems), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisitioning), and Alarm Alerting & Notification systems.  Level of support will include programming & configuration support, field hardware, loop troubleshooting, and system software/hardware upgrade support in the design, development, project management, installation, and implementation.  Role will also support as needed the facilitation of equipment onboarding, support department best practices, identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives, disaster recovery contingencies, drive solutions for software/hardware problems, and vendor management. 

Essential Duties:

  • Serve as a team member/administrator of our OSIsoft PI System data historian/data analytic solutions through design, Pi-Vision display development, installation, integration, implementation, and support.
  • Automation networking integration support includes the coordination with Biogen IT Business System Owners, Automation Business Process Owners, and Development Engineers in the systems IT network connectivity, reliability, availability, security, performance, and the maintaining of systems functionality, as well as scheduling, planning, and supporting the execution of system deployments and upgrades.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Automation engineering team support to include the management, design, installation, configuration, programing, and overall maintenance of sites business critical automation DCS and SCADA platforms.  This includes both the systems software & related hardware under the scope of the Automation/I&C department.
  • Instrumentation engineering support including process improvements, process loop troubleshooting, determining instrumentation & automation requirements, as well as supporting the development of new improved process control and logic strategies.
  • Hardware maintenance & troubleshooting of associated DCS or SCADA hardware (e.g.: VM Servers, Processors, I/O modules, digital & 4-20mA transmitters, etc.) including physically installing of hardware, related signal wiring, managing of upgrades, troubleshooting, etc.

Qualifications

  • Ideal Candidate would have experience in the administration of OSIsoft Pi Historian and data analytic solutions including implementation, architecture, and configuration of OSIsoft Pi as well as OSIsoft Pi interface / connector technologies (e.g.: OPC, BACnet, RDBMS, MQTT, UFL, SQL etc.). 
  • Ideal Candidate would have experience in OSIsoft Pi “Asset Framework” and “Event Frame” development.
  • Ideal Candidate would have experience in developing customized views with the OSIsoft Pi-Vision visualization tool (e.g.: trends, graphics, analytics, etc.).
  • Ideal Candidate would need to have a good understanding of IT Network infrastructure (e.g.: Firewalls, LAN and wireless networks, Virtual Machines, network protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs/Wireless LANs, VPN, routing and switching, DNS, etc.). 
  • Candidate would have a good experience in programming, configuring, signal wiring, and troubleshooting a variety of SCADA, DCS and Data Historian systems. Note: Non-exhaustive list of examples of platforms utilized on site include OSIsoft Pi Historian, DeltaV, Finesse (TruBio DV), LabWatch DAS (GE Digital-iFix), Allen-Bradley PLC’s (RSLogix), SQL, JCI Metasys BMS, KLATU/TRAXX predictive freezer failure monitoring system, and TopView Alarm management and notification system.
  • Successful candidate will have experience with signal simulating, testing, and troubleshooting with measurement equipment for AC/DC loops as well as for analog & digital signals, a good understanding of electronics (i.e.: Ohms law, digital concepts, analog loops, DC & AC circuits, etc.), as well as understanding of smart instrumentation platforms (e.g.: AMS, ProfiBus, HART, FieldBus, etc.). 
  • Experience in engineering construction, commissioning, or validation of capital projects with laboratory, process, and utility equipment and systems including support of design, FAT’s, and assuring engineering documentation are current (e.g.: URS, DS, protocol review, change controls, etc.) following GEP (Good Engineering Practices).
  • Proficient in industry standards, guidelines, and regulations (e.g.: ISA, GAMP, S88.01, S95, and CFRs)
  • Ability to work extended hours when/if needed and be available for off-shift emergency calls.

Education & Experience:

For Sr. Engineer I:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other Engineering or Computer Science discipline with Four or more (4+) years prior industry experience.

OR

  • Associates Degree or Military training in Electronics, Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other Engineering or Computer Science discipline with Six or more (6+) years prior industry experience.

OR

  • High School Diploma with Ten or more (10+) years prior industry Automation, I&C, Computer Science experience.

For Sr Engineer II:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other Engineering or Computer Science discipline with Eight or more (8+) years prior industry experience.

OR

  • Associates Degree or Military training in Electronics, Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other Engineering or Computer Science discipline with Ten or more (10+) years prior industry experience.

OR

  • High School Diploma with Fifteen or more (15+) years prior industry Automation, I&C, Computer Science experience.
