About this role: 

As the Principal Database Strategy Analyst in Observational Data Sciences (ODS) you are an expert within the area of Observational database management and real-world data analyses.  You are responsible for the entire life cycle of observational analyses, from acquisition of data and access through to completion of projects for key stakeholders within Biogen.  This is a key role within Global Analytics and Data Sciences, ODS team to ensure quality and consistency of analyses across all products.  The position collaborates with members of ADS, Translational Biology and Research, Global Safety and Regulatory Sciences (GSRS), Global Clinical Operations (GCO), Information Technology (IT), and Commercial’s Value and Access (V&A) to help manage the use of large observational health care data resources for the best utility of Biogen.  You will identify resources of all types required to access or house large and small health care data to allow for rapid analyses to answer key business questions in support of the drug development life cycle.

What you’ll do: 

  • Conduct statistical programming, systems analysis and database management support for observational studies/projects using internal observational database, ensuring research projects are delivered on time, to protocol specifications in support of all Biogen compounds, either marketed or in development in collaboration with ODS stakeholders.
  • Define and implement best practices for ADS ODS Staff including the analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, validation, documentation, and maintenance of effective and efficient computer solutions, tools, and database systems for conducting, analyzing, and reporting observational health related database studies.
  • Assist in the development of the strategy to maximize the types of data, the specific data assets, and the utility of observational data assets to provide the best return on investment to Biogen.
  • Contribute to special initiatives and capability projects both inside and outside the ADS ODS department.
  • Assist with the vendor management associated with sources of data and technology. 
  • Act as mentor and leader for all ADS ODS staff, providing user training on the systems, tools, processes, and workflows for use of the observational resources provided by and available to the ADS ODS team

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Life Sciences, Epidemiology, Bioinformatics, Clinical Informatics or similar technical fields
  • 5-8 years relevant work experience with a focus on clinical, observational or RWE data management ingestion, curation, and analysis
  • Deep understanding of drug development and biopharmaceutical industry, with emphasis on role of observational RWE data
  • Experience using hardware and software used to curate, process and analyze data
  • Experience with scripting/ coding languages (R, Python, Unix scripting etc.)
  • 5 years of SAS experience required (must have current experience); SAS Certification preferred
  • Knowledge of data analysis and trending and familiarity with statistics
  • Experience developing and implementing process and data standards
  • Strong project management skills, and ability to effectively lead, collaborate and communicate across diverse group of observational RWE data stakeholders (scientific, technical, operational)
  • High attention to detail including proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and manage effective business relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Life Sciences, Epidemiology, Bioinformatics with 3 years of experience 
  • Exposure to neurology/ neuroscience;
  • Experience establishing and managing relationships with external vendors and organizations for the acquisition of observational RWD.
