About This Role

The successful candidate will join a team of scientists responsible for the development of scalable cell culture and purification processes used for the clinical and commercial manufacturing of adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy vectors. In addition, this person will need to effectively collaborate with different groups within Gene Therapy, Process Development, Research, and external parties.

What You'll Do

  • Independently scale up upstream processes and execute laboratory experiments with minimal guidance
  • Perform independent data recording, analysis, and troubleshooting
  • Establish manufacturable large-scale cell culture and fermentation operations
  • Document development work in concise reports and provide project updates in written and oral presentations
  • Support maintenance tasks for laboratory instrumentation and collaborate with outside vendors/suppliers for new technology evaluations.
  • identify and drive systems improvements across operations and technologies
  • Interact with contract manufacturing organizations through technology transfer activities and person-in-plant support

Who You Are

To attain success in this position you will require to have strong knowledge around large-scale upstream development operations and to independently plan and execute projects and experiments across multiple viral vector and precursor production platforms to support pilot-scale material generation runs. 

Qualifications

Required Skills  

  • Bachelor's degree Bioengineering, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related discipline with 6+ years’ experience in Biotech / Biopharma industries
  • Masters degree in Bioengineering, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related discipline with 4+ years’ experience in Biotech / Biopharma industries
  • Strong knowledge and experience in large-scale bioreactor or fermenter operations
  • Knowledge and experience with viral vector related biology and/or manufacturing
  • Proven record of successfully planning and executing projects and experiments
  • Strong knowledge and experience in mammalian cell culture / bacterial fermentation / viral vector production operations (aseptic operations, cell biology, biochemistry, analytical techniques, bioreactor operations)
  • Skilled in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and other tools.
  • Knowledge of statistical software applications, including DoE
  • Strong analytical skills
