Job Overview:
This job is required to run Biogen Japan medical activities in NMD (Neuromuscular disease) that contains both SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) and ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in close collaboration with internal stakeholders.

The person should be able to manage the NMD Medical team of Biogen Japan with sufficient communication skills in collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders including External.  The person will be primarily responsible as the Biogen Japan’s medical contact to Biogen’s Global NMD medical team.

1. As a Biogen Japan Medical Lead for NMD, the person leads the NMD Medical team and oversees medical activities of NMD.
2. Ensure that the NMD Medical team plans and executes medical activities appropriately under close collaborations with global medical, clinical development, and other relevant functions in Biogen. Alignment and collaboration at Japan affiliate level with other functions such as Japan R&D and the Rare Disease (SMA) BU is also required.
3. Represent the affiliate NMD Medical at cross-functional meetings as needed or meetings with global teams
4. Ensure that the NMD Medical team works appropriately in performing analysis of current/future medical status in Japan for nusinersen (Spinraza®) and other relevant pipeline assets’ indication/treatment aligned with the global strategies, and that medical insight is shared with Biogen Japan Market team to establish efficient and interactive pre-launch and post-launch activities.
5. Take responsibility for appropriate plan and execution of various medical education and data communication including congress activities and advisory board meetings via active engagement with KMEs (KOLs) in collaboration with Medical members. Lead post-launch specific data generation through IIT, Biogen-sponsored research, or Collaborative study to address a data gap identified locally by the team.
6. Provide medical expertise to cross-functional teams. As a content expert, review abstracts, publications, medical information letters, and other medical documents as needed. Oversees the similar tasks provided occasionally by Medical Manager in the team.
7. Support MSL for her/his field activities with External counterparts.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. Finalize medical plan, establish budget plan, and have responsibility in appropriate conduction of medical activities (25%)
2. Lead Biogen Japan NMD Medical team with close communication with relevant internal counterparts (20%)
3. Manage the NMD Medical team and the team members (20%)
4. Lead communication with the global Biogen Medical team (15%)
5. Plan and oversee congress and related medical activities (10%)

Minimum Education Requirements:

• MD/PhD degree or other equivalent professional degree or track record in medical science

Minimum Experience Requirements:

• At least 3-year experience in medical affairs of pharmaceutical industry

Knowledge & Skills:

• Experienced in NMD with KOL networking is preferred
• Ability to effectively operate in a highly matrixed organization with strong leadership is preferred
• Fluent business level of English and Japanese (listening, speaking, reading, writing) is required
• People management and project management skills
• Ability to take initiative and solve complex and challenging problems
